It's just an average post-case bar night, and Chase is laughing about something House said to Wilson the other day when he sees her out of the corner of his eye. Tall, blonde, gorgeous, at the bar, by herself, looking alone and available. He glances over at Foreman and Cameron, and it's strange, the way you develop your own language in facial expressions when you work for House, because they know it's a question, and Cameron responds with a 'whatever' eye-roll, and Foreman gives a 'go for it' head-nod.

Chase slides into the seat next to her, smiling his most charming smile, and holds out a hand. "Robert," he says.

She smiles back, all clean, white teeth, and shakes it. "Shelly," she says.

They talk after that, he tells her about his job at Picon-Archa Teaching Hospital, and she smiles and nods and asks her all the right questions. At the end, he invites her over to his apartment, but she shakes her head and says, "Sorry, I have a busy day tomorrow."

There's no way that he can get out of this with his dignity intact, but he tries, saying his goodbyes as quickly as possible. She stops him with a hand on his cheek, a gentle kiss on his lips.

"I'm sorry," she says, and for some reason, Chase thinks she's talking about more that the rejection.
