Monday 23rd December:
Had meant to get up in time to meet Andy on his way up to work. Failed at that but set off on a morning run anyway, cold but beautiful out.
Took a long time to get started on new project, not helped by their labyrinthine multi-authentication security system. It's an analysis of conversations about high cholesterol and statins. There is a huge amount of disinformation on line it seems. I mentioned the project in passing to Mum. She replied that they'd both stopped taking statins as they'd heard online they were bad for you. Hmm.
Struggled to get back into work mode but by late afternoon I had found my way around the set up and managed a couple of slides. The deadline seems a bit vague but I'd like to make a decent start before Christmas proper gets in the way. Helped Mum make a risotto for tea. V nice.
Andy was off to Stonehaven after work to meet Fraz. I wasn't invited. I had been looking forward to watching the new colourised version of the classic 1969 Doctor Who story, The War Games, which was debuting this evening. He assured me we could watch it this evening on his return. I asked him to give me an ETA. Shortly after 21:00 he confirmed he was on the bus home. I asked if he wanted me to meet him at the bus stop to expedite proceedings, since the show was more than 90 minutes long and we both had work in the morning. Instead he popped in here for a couple of leisurely drinks as I agitatedly glanced at my watch.
It was after 22:00 by the time we got down the road. I took up position eager to start watching while the others casually continued watching Harry Potter. I finally cracked, stood up, pompously announced it didn't look like it was going to happen and excused myself. They eventually persuaded me to return but it was not the most relaxed viewing experience. Still, the Beeb had done an excellent job of making a ten-episode black and white epic from the 1960s palatable to today's audience. The colourisation was excellent and there were some very nice touches, especially when the Doctor is offered a new face to choose and rejects various future incarnations (Peter Capaldi is "too old", David Tennant "too thin" etc). Andy had fallen asleep by this exciting climax, just as I had feared, which was why I was worried about starting so late in the first place. Oh well. Still, it was nice to see them all again. Eventually crawled into bed about 01:00 ...
