Sunday 8th December:
Darragh continued to batter the country. Daisy awoke at 05:18 and I thought we were in for a tough one but amazingly she went back to sleep. When she woke up again it was after 08:00. A Christmas miracle!
I let her open another present. She opted for the next biggest one. This was her Jo Jo Siwa outfit. She was very pleased and put it on straight away. This made me very happy. Got a lovely message from her grandmother thanking me for the calendar I'd dropped off yesterday: "Thank you so much. The calendar is wonderful. what more could any grandparents want. We love it. Thank you so much once again." This made me very happy too. I bloody love Christmas.
With the forecast bleak I was worried about public transport but the trains seemed to be running, albeit at a reduced service. So I played my trump card of asking Daisy if she wanted to go to Flip Out - the crazy trampoline warehouse in Brent Cross. She'd been asking for this repeatedly so I knew it would be a hit.
Our journey was less arduous than I'd feared. Flip Out was very busy, I guess due to a combination of the weather and looming Christmas. The staff, comprising almost entirely of surly teenagers who look like they'd rather be anywhere else (but in their defence are probably paid a pittance) were mostly even more unfriendly than usual. Several attraction were out of order, including the big slide. But we had a fabulous time. The donut slide was a particular hit. It was wonderful to see Daisy so happy. She also enthusiastically demolished her pizza so a big success all round.
The weather had if anything got even worse as we battled home, but I safely delivered her to her mother's with minimal mishap. A successful day. Rewarded myself with a vape and a bus home.
Mum had finally returned from her month long trip to the Canaries so had a good catch up with her. She seemed in good spirits. Phoned Andy too. The panto had been a great success. Very much looking forward to seeing them all in little over a week. Made a big pot of pasta to see me through the next couple of days. Ate the lot. Four bowls.
Finished the World at War in bed. What a tremendous series. Despite (or maybe because of) being half a century old, I don't think I've seen a better documentary on the war. Stayed up late reading latest library books - Aftermath (about immediate post-war Germany) and Adrian Edmondson's autobiography for dessert. Fell asleep instantly.
