Bethany knew she shouldn't be out alone on the streets of Kirkwall. It wasn't that she was helpless, exactly. She could actually defend herself quite well with a few well-placed fireballs and ice shards. The trouble was that if she ever did need to use her magic, there was bound to be someone around who would run off and squeal to the templars about it. Or worse yet, an actual templar might spot her and try a daring capture. Kirkwall wasn't the best hiding place and it held none of the loyalty of Lothering, where the few people who knew about Bethany's magical abilities were more inclined to let her help them out with a nice healing spell or light their fireplace when the wood was too wet to burn than turn her in.
But she was so tired of being cooped up inside that tiny hut with mother and Gamlen and Paws (who was going a bit stir-crazy too, she imagined, with all the frantic digging he was doing to the dirt floor) that she couldn't stand waiting around any longer. She needed to feel fresh air on her face, see people outside of her own family, maybe even browse the markets of Lowtown like a normal person for a little while.
A stall of trinkets caught her eye, the fine jeweled rings and lyrium enhanced belts enticing her. She wouldn't buy anything of course. They were still saving up for a trip to the Deep Roads. But surely just looking couldn't hurt? Maybe trying one on?
