It was a meeting Yukari wasn't looking forward to any more than Touya; there was the possibility of one or both of them getting hurt.

The smile is returned. "It's nothing."

But at Touya's second request, she finds her head shaking no. It's one promise that she can't--and won't be able to keep. "Don't think I'm going to run away if the going gets tough. That's not what friends do."

She wouldn't leave him if they were in Tartarus together; she wouldn't leave him here, either.

If trouble comes, Yukari is prepared to take it.

Takaya had been resting in his room when he received a call from the front desk. It appeared that someone was asking for him. He wasted no time in getting down to the lobby. Part of him hoped that it might be Jin, coming to tell him that he was alright.

His fantasy was quickly shattered upon his entrance as he saw it was not Jin who had called for him. Instead it was the boy who had hurt Jin, Touya, and the girl who Takaya had envied so much, Yukari.

"Yukari.. Touya.. I had thought that.." He made no attempt to hide the disheartened look an his face, "I would ask why you want to see me, but I believe I already know why."

Takaya's demeanor... Touya had come, ready for a fight, but the look of shattered hope on Takaya's face when he saw them... Shame was not a familiar emotion to Touya, but he was feeling it now. Acutely.

"Still hasn't come to see you huh?" the boy took a deep breath.

"Look... I know I'm not your favorite person right now but... I wanted you to hear what really happened that night - or at least my version. You deserve that much," he said, then paused.

"Can we go somewhere more private? I'm sure you understand..."

"No, I went out looking for him the other day, but I had no luck and Chidori nearly passed out, so we had to return. I plan on going out again when she has recovered." He stared at the floor, overcome with guilt. He should be out looking for Jin at that moment even if Chidori was resting. He didn't require her to do a simple search.

He looked around. The hotel lobby was very busy and anyone could overhear their conversation. Perhaps it was best to move to a more private location.

"I do wish to hear about what happened, Touya. I know that you cannot be responsible alone for that night."

"Those involved are the worst people to ask about responsibility Takaya," the boy said, motioning the other to lead the way.

"But whatever the case, I'm taking responsibility for the causes at least, if not the effects... Something I wish Jin would do as well."

He shook his head. "But I will give you the facts... I assure you of that."

Takaya led the way back to his room. He was eager to find out exactly what had happened that night. Why had the two gotten into a fight in the first place? He knew Jin could be hard to get along with, but surely not so much that people would want to fight him. In all honesty, though he knew in general that not many people got along with Jin, he really didn't know to what extent their dislike of him was, or how they came to dislike him so much.

As they entered the room, Takaya took a seat on his futon, "Please try to make yourselves comfortable."

Staying silent for a moment, he continued talking, "Touya, tell me everything from the beginning. I want to know exactly why there was fighting in the first place."

"The beginning eh?" Touya said, leaning against the wall, arms akimbo. He glanced at Yukari once, for strength, then:

"He hurt a friend of mine badly... and I wanted to have a little talk with him about that. See, he..."

Touya paused. He took a deep breath - then turned to his companion again.

"Do you want me to tell him about it? Or... do you want to tell him? Since... you're the one her hurt."

He sighed deeply. "I'm sorry Yuka-tan, but I had to ask - in case you want to be the one to speak of your relationship. If you'd rather I do it, I'm more than willing."

When Yukari agreed to go with Touya, she thought she was just going for mutual support. She never expected that she'd be relaying the truth of her feelings toward Jin to his current lover.

An uneasy expression begins to make its way across Yukari's face.

"I-"

How was she supposed to say this?

"I couldn't stand Jin at first," she admits, thinking back to the grenade incident. "I didn't think there was anything that I could like about him. But the more time we spent around one another, the more that I realized that he wasn't such a bad guy."

Closing her eyes, brows furrowed, she admits, "It was kind of like a drama, how the protagonist always ends up with the guy she started off hating."

Yukari opens her eyes again. "But as the two of us got to know each other more, I started to realize that my feelings of friendship were something more than that. It was around then that I made my confession."

Somehow, talking about it, it seems sort of ridiculous. Just like those dramas on TV.

"Jin told me he'd think about it, but he never got back to me. I thought that I still had a chance because he hadn't told me otherwise."

A breath, and Yukari tries her best to keep her composure.

"And then you told me."

Touya placed a hand on Yukari's shoulder, deeply sorry to have put her through this... But this had to get out, all out, like the pus in a wound, before any healing at all could begin. Too much left unsaid and the smallest spark could set off an explosive reaction, one which no one could ever take back.

Case in point: 'Our actions have never had a toll on anyone else before.'Hand still on Yukari's shoulder, he turned to Takaya ( ... )

Maybe it's what Takaya said... or maybe it's just the way he said it. But suddenly, it felt as though a huge weight had been lifted from her chest.

Before, she didn't realize what a history the two--no, three--had together.

If she had to be dumped, maybe it was good that it was for a person like Takaya.

"Don't worry about it."

For the next few minutes, Yukari's quiet, listening to Touya's words--all words she came to really believe in after their talk the Wednesday before.
