Mr. Perrone...

...was telling me today that the government has sanctioned funding to a new branch of science dedicated to deflecting meteors from earth via ballistic interplanetary missiles. it's crazy to think he designed a few parts on our current model of the transcontinental cruise missile. the man likes missiles. every time i walke into anatomy class, like clockwork, he's washing his hands. i think he had a hand in the creation of bread. i'm almost positive i'm going to study astronomy and cosmology as my major, the salary is wonderful, better than an MD, and it's a field that still needs a lot of their kind to spearhead the exploration of unchartered space. i've always had a passion for black holes since i was a kid but i never really understood what they are or do. recently, i found that out. more so, i'm submerged in this wealth of astronomical knowledge which i had not even thought possible. the properties of space and time acting as the fabric of the cosmos are so...mysterious. especially time dilation. time dilation for the lay person is self explanatory. time dialating(sp?).what this means is that the more gravity an object is subjected to, in this case, accelerated motion, the time at which this object is traveling slows down, in essence, time travel. for example, two people in space are traveling parallel to one another. one of them accelerates and speeds away for X amount of time. one astronaut is traveling at constant velocity and the other faster. given a long enough time for the persons to seperate, when the one traveling at constant velocity decides to catch up, and begins to travel in accelerated motion, time slows down. the result is mind boggling. what took the traveler catching up say, a year, the one who was ahead, their life has passed on for sixty years. here's another example, of the gravitational effect of time. say you were to be lowered down a rope to just an inch above a black hole's event horizon, since the gravity is so powerful not even light can escape, time virtually stops. yeah well, enough of that for now. i'm pretty sure i'll be driving next week so i can start teaching guitar finally.
