Renée Zellweger is one of those actors that you admire for their ability to take on wildly different roles and play them convincingly. And she seems like a genuinely nice and sweet person, someone you might lounge around for coffee or play a board game with, and you wouldn't mind losing because they're so nice!
I mentioned that "Down With Love" was my least favorite of the roles I've seen her perform and I wanted to explain that a bit. The problem was more a fault of the director and writer. "Down With Love" was an intentional mimic of "Pillow Talk," right down to Tony Randall in the cast. However, the script was relatively charmless and the direction was stilted, even by 1960s standards! I can't fault her for that, but it just wasn't one of her best roles, especially when she had to be compared to Doris Day!
I liked the idea of the film, just disliked the execution.
Thanks. I forgot to mention that in that movie, there was this one incredibly long soliloquy that she delivered, explaining her plan to the Ewan McGregor character that basically ground the entire film to a screeching halt! As I remembered it, it was a one shot without cutting away from her. That could be wrong since I haven't seen the film recently. The talent it takes to give a convincing line read of a speech that was multiple pages was exemplary. The result, deadly!
I totall agree with you - and I feel that way about Drew BArrymore too. someone who would be genuine, sweet, and fun!
I didn't see Down with Love, but it was an interesting role for her. she is very versatile, and even if she's not so pretty, she does a good job with romantic roles.
Absolutely LOVED her in Empire Records and Me MySelf and Irene..... liked her in Jerry Mcquire. and thought she did really good in Chicago.
Its a shame that I hate her now. I hated Cold Mountain. She was a scene chewer. And I HATED Bridget Jones movies. For those she got a 2, cause I would be very glad to never see her in a movie again.
I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but every single time I watch any movie she is in, I want to shut it off. I think it has a lot to do with how bad of an actress she is.
I was just quoting Mrs Griffin. Aparently she hates her or something like that, so she called her a "said term" on her reality show in one of her acts. I have no idea how she thinks shes a coke whore.... I just thought it was funny. Personal taste aside, I dont think shes a very good actress at all. If I remember right, it was all in good fun. Kathy apologized to Renee, and they all good.
I was a bit surprised since I usually think Kathy is quite funny. but thanks for the explanation. I don't think Renee is great, but for me she's more enjoyable than many actresses.
I have a love/hate thing with Renee. She's got an awful reputation as far as star status goes, but as for her acting, I don't think she's THAT bad. I still get sucked into Jerry Maguire, even tho I can't stand Tom Cruise.

"Puffy faced coke whore"

first, as much as I love Kathy Griffin, where does she get the idea that Renee is a coke whore?
second, what does that have to do with her ability to act?
I think it's easy to get side-tracked by personal taste, but that aside, Renee doesn't seem to deserve that terrible slander.
