I really enjoyed that it personalized so many Roman icons, and, set as it was pre-triumverate and Caesar being made emperor, also put those pieces of history, which I knew a little more about than this period, into better perspective.

I know a lot more about the Imperial era than the Republic. Mostly because it had a much more direct influence on Medival History, which I was quite facinated by when I was young. It still holds my interest now.
I really would like to know more about Roman life in the Republican era, though. I mean, most of the things we typically think of as "Roman," are from the Imperial era. For example, Ceasar made short hair and a shaved face popular. Before that, most Roman men had beards. After, it wasn't "manly" to have a beard. Even the Forum as we understand it, was totally different before the great fire. In fact, it's redesign by Nero was most probably influenced by political decisions... which I'm trying to keep myself from getting into because this is only a reply to a post.

Anyway, Um... there was supposed to be a point in there somewhere, but I've lost it now. Sorry. I bet I'll remember as soon as I log off and go home.
