Movie watching decreased, tv show watching up

Jul 22, 2009 09:21

I haven't had much to post regarding movies because I've been up to trying to finish some TV series. I borrowed True Blood Season 1 from my friend, watched Slayers Season 1 on Hulu, and found all three discs in stock How I Met Your Mother Season 1.

So I guess I can talk about those and the other couple movies I saw. And maybe Harry Potter now that everyone's prolly seen it. If you haven't, don't read on.

Bruno: Good God, why did I watch this movie? Okay, I will not lie, I laughed at parts throughout the movie, but I was highly grossed out. I was kind of hoping they would blur out penises and vaginas like in the last movie. But no. I just don't find nakedness funny. Like in the Hangover when you see Zach G's ass/penis. Didn't find it funny/necessary. Then again Bruno is all about disgusting people and being controversial. I knew all of this going into the movie, and I was considering not going, but it was free and I needed something to make me laugh.

Harry Potter: I liked the sets and costumes in this movie. And the cinematography looked like they were trying too hard to create some artsy shots (specifically at the beginning of the movie). Granted, they were good shots but they were awkwardly placed. Actually many aspects of this movie were awkward. I spent most of the movie wondering when the next awkward moment between two characters would be or when another character would get cock blocked rather than enjoying the film as a whole. I laughed a lot at the character's expenses in the movie, whereas in the book I kinda felt sorry for them. This might be due to the dialogue. I'm sure most of the awkward parts were supposed to be funny, as the entire theater laughed, but I thought it took away from the seriousness of the film as a whole. I really don't have much to say about the movie. Most people have already read the book and know what's going on or heard spoilers about the end of the movie. And I'm not gonna nit-pick about how the movie was or wasn't like the book. I guess as a whole, it was just a bunch of teenage awkwardness.

Confessions of a Shopaholic: I had a free new-release rental at Blockbuster and from working at a movie theater, I have seen pretty much all new releases. I didn't see this one in theaters for free because no one wanted to go with me and everyone else had already seen it. I am capable of seeing movies by myself, however, I don't like seeing chick flicks alone because I am embarrassed that I want to see them. I hate chick flicks and they are often quite predictable/annoying. I rented this because I was intrigued and Isla Fisher is HOT. I've always thought her voice was annoying after a while since she is the main character in this movie she is therefore the one who is talking the whole time. Parts of this movie were kind of cute, like the whole newspaper thing, but other than that it pretty much sucked. I mean, a bunch of women jumping over brand shoes, spending thousands of dollars on credit cards, over-acting, and having shop-a-holics anonymous meetings was just bleck. I didn't need to see this movie, I could've just watched segments online.

Spring Breakdown: I saw this movie a while back on IMDB and was intrigued. Granted, movies with SNL characters are often pretty lame, I still wanted to see Rachel Dratch and Amy Poehler (sp?) go on Spring Break pretending to be younger. Everything about this movie sucked except for Amy Poehler's lines when she's trying to fit in with a sorority of girls who have got to be 10-20 years younger than her. And the plot of the movie was basically that they were following this daughter of a senator around to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid, but apparently she and her two friends are just as lame as the three older women. And then they do a lame-ass happy song at the end to say "we're just as cool as you are even though we're kinda lame" and win the singing competition (out of pity?).

Love Me If You Dare: This movie was recommended to me by a friend. It is a foreign film (in French which was great because I still knew some words). It's about these two children who pass they carousel-like container back and forth. Whoever has the container tells the other to do a dare and then they get the container. It goes back and forth like this from when they are children, and they just don't seem to grow up. But it is also a love story because at certain points one feels that they need to grow up and they both have feelings for each other that they won't say because they feel like brother/sister and are playing the game. It is lots of action the whole time, narrated at points, has a great plot, a little bit of comedy/romance (but not sickening), unpredictable, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Plus, the cinematography is amazing.

True Blood Season 1: This series started off pretty strong in the first episode with vampire hunters trying to get the main character vampire and the other main character saving him. However, it just kept going downhill with two many different types of characters/issues (talk of werewolves, shapeshifters, too many people trying to kill vampires, interracial relationships, people who are gay, too many drug dealers, demons, etc.) that it just gets distracting. I just kept thinking, there is too much going on to give a shit about the main plot. They could've had 30 minute episodes instead of 52 minute episodes by cutting out bullshit. Also, Sookie's teeth were SO distracting and her relationship with the vampire was just as annoying as fucking Twilight. He stalked her, she kept asking questions about what about vampires was true or not, starred at him all the time, he was moody, she wanted him to bite her all the time, she wanted to do him right after he came out of the ground all full of dirt, and she cheated on him when he was gone for a week/two. So yeah, I think I might pass on Season 2.

Slayers Season 1: I hated this series. Lina Inverse (sp?) is fucking annoying as hell and her sidekick is as dense as a rock. They just played on this the whole series. I felt like I was watching Pokemon where they run into random people while going to the next city for a whole damn episode. So basically the first few episodes and the last few episodes are the only ones that have anything to do with the plot. And it ended way too fast. And it was really fucking lame how it ended too. The boss pussied out. Just don't even bother.

How I Met Your Mother Season 1: Why did I not know about this sooner!! My brother told me he watches this with his friends and it's hilarious. It's got some of my favs on the show: Jason Segel and Neil Patrick Harris (Also, Bob Saget is the narrator). Neil Patrick Harris just acts like he is hot all the time, is kind of a huge nerd, and has GREAT lines. The main character is so awkward and has great lines too. The show keeps you in the entire time watching the main character stumble through trying to get in relationships with a friend who thinks he's God's gift to women is great. The show has some continuity but also is so incredibly random each episode. I definitely recommend this show. Makes me laugh every time but also has some sweet moments.

I rented 8 movies so be prepared to hear about more soon! Especially since I don't want to see any of the movies in the theater which came out this weekend.

I am considering making a blog just for movies and calling it something to do with the fact that I watch 10-15 movies a week so I can keep this blog separate. Then again making a new blog is kinda weird cause you never know who's gonna get fussy with you. Also, I am not amazing or anything at rating movies/writing descriptions so I could get crap for that. I write reviews in an A.D.D./situational manner so people may not like that. I dunno, we'll see.
