Since just about all I can do to stay sane while I do my homework (or procrastinate) is watch movies, there will be so many posts about the movies I watch. And I usually post when I am feeling lame (which is right now due to PMS, sorry if that's TMI). So here we go. Here's a list of more movies I've watched since Spring Break.
I wish that Netflix had a "recently rated" function like facebook does...wow can't believe I'm comparing the two.
Currently watching: Life or Something Like It - Angelina Jolie is smoking hot. I think that might have been the only reason I rented this dvd. However she does look a little weird with blonde hair. Anyhow, I also have a feeling I saw the end of this movie. I guess I'll just turn it off if that's the case. (Update: I have seen the last 25 minutes of this movie on tv maybe?).
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas: At first I wasn't sure how this movie was gonna be. Once it got moving it kept me in. And the ending was unexpected. Good movie.
Akira: Not as good as I thought it would be. Finally got around to watching it after anime club watched it so many times.
Robocop: The first time I watched this movie, I fell asleep, but that's cause my couch is comfy. Anyhow, I liked this movie and its concept. I thought it was interesting how the robocop wasn't just a robot but a person too. That's something I wouldn't have guessed when looking at the box, but it made the story so much better.
A Midsummer Night's Dream: I am not a fan of Shakespeare for the mostpart. There were only 3 of his plays in which I enjoyed. This one was unfortunately not one of them, but I think it was because I was completely confused by who was who and what was going on because I didn't understand the language when it was spoken fast. Maybe I'd understand it after reading the play rather than watching it. I had to have my boyfriend explain the whole story to me because all I got was that people liked each other and Michelle Phieffer (sp?) was gonna have sex with a donkey.
Shaolin Soccer: This was another movie I fell asleep during (wow I should get a couch with spikes in it so I stop falling asleep!). This movie made me laugh a lot and the idea of karate and soccer mixed was great.
The Reader: Started off slow at first, but by slowly building the story it ended up being a wonderful ending. It was interesting how everything remained connected over the years in the movie. I don't want to ruin the ending so I won't say anything else.
Religulous: This movie pretty much said a lot that I agree with. Just points out some of the things in scripture or the ways they are interpreted (and not just Christian faiths) that don't make any sense. Not saying everything in the movie I agree with but for the mostpart I'm glad someone looks at things the way I do. Didn't make me not believe in a higher power, just made me laugh at people who interpret things in ways that don't make sense (especially those preachers outside of colleges that yell at people).
Star Trek: Awesome. I loved the little things about this movie, such as lines that Spock said or mannerisms that were right on. The cast did amazing.
Marley and Me: I knew I wasn't gonna like this movie, but I rented it anyway cause I wanted background noise and a cute lil puppy. This movie was so damn annoying. The dog was so horrible and irresponsibly taken care of that I just didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Not even in the end of the movie. I just thought, "wow, that was over the top" and turned it off. I don't know if it was based on a true story with an actual columnist who wrote stories about his dog, but the way they did it I just didn't care.
Wayne's World: It took me so many years to finally see the beginning of this movie (all I saw was the last 5 minutes). It made me laugh a little. Whoever the "douchebag" in the movie was just seemed like a type-cast and that annoyed me (then again, Mike Myers tends to be typecast as well, but this was early Mike Myers so I let it slide). Other than that it was pretty funny. I also didn't realize a lot of the lines I use today are from that movie.
Tin Cup: Sucked in my opinion. Didn't care about the main character whatsoever or his girly thing. Also I don't like golf movies so that just made it even harder to watch. It was very predictable too.
Big Trouble in Little China: Weird movie. Never really got what the point of that movie was other than just kinda weird and running around after some magic ninjas (yes I understood the plot, I just thought it was weiiiiird).
Changeling: Kept me in my seat not wanting to pause it. I had class early the next morning and I stayed up until 3 am watching this anyway. So good. Sad story, but a really good movie.
Death Race 2000: Watch this movie. It was not only hilarious but entertaining. Basically it's about a television broadcast of that game we all pretend to play in the car, hit the pedestrian for points. Except they really do it and the broadcasters are cheesy and fun. Seriously, why are you not watching this movie right now?
Death Race: Okay. Basically had similar characters to Death Race 2000. Nothing like Death Race except they use cars to race and kill each other. Not pedestrians but each other. And it's in a prison for freedom. Still kinda fun but not as good as Death Race 2000.
The Way of the Gun: Denise always quoted this movie but I had NO idea which one it was. Until yesterday. This movie is hilarious and I am in love with Ryan Phillippe. Unfortunately the hilariousness didn't last through the whole movie, just the beginning mostly, but there was enough plot to make up for it. Good movie.
Fortress: I love these type of movies and I don't care how cheesy they are. Not that this one is. It's kinda cool actually. Also, I love the word INTESTINATE and I think I'm gonna use it in everyday conversation. This movie kept me going and wondering if they were gonna escape and what was really going on the whole time.
Once Upon a Time in Mexico: I hope I got this title right. Johnny Depp + Antonio Banderas + Salma Hayek + Eva Mendez = one amazing orgy of a good movie (no, there aren't any orgys in this movie...sorry). I don't want to tell you my favorite part even cause it comes at the end. Watch Desperado, then watch this movie. That's all you need to know.
The Savages: People in my major, scratch that, people in the health care field should watch this movie. I am always a big fan of renting movies with characters who have real life experiences that I would actually see in my field of study. Half the time I don't even know I'm renting that kind of movie. For instance, with this one, I saw that it had Philip Seymour Hoffman in it and that was pretty much the only reason I rented it. Some of the best movies I have rented, I knew nothing about prior. God. Philip Seymour Hoffman does an amazing job in this movie and it shows how two children of a father with dementia can struggle to find a nursing home to place him in and have their own struggles in the meantime.
Okay, that's it for now. I have 4 movies I'm going to watch in theaters, 8 movies from Blockbuster, 12 I'm borrowing from Jim, 1-2 Netflix movies, and 5 I'm borrowing from my brother to watch in the next week. So that's what you get to look forward to????
