He rides the train on his way to work everyday.
There are kids on the train, going to school, who giggle absently and stare out the window. Some of them give him backward glances, and most of them don’t notice that he’s there. He’s just another guy on the train, another face to ignore and dream about when you sleep. He recognizes a few of them; kids from his neighborhood, kids with nothing to eat, kids who stare blankly ahead and don’t think about what they’re supposed to think about.
He can’t save them all, even if he wants to.
