When Samantha Beckett stepped out of the Imaging Chamber, she found Al sitting, hunched over, in a hospital chair just off the waiting room. He looked appropriately exhausted, but almost thoughtful. She smiled slightly and went to join him, kneeling next to him. "Penny for your thoughts?" she asked softly.
Al looked up at her, still seemingly thinking. When he spoke, it was very deliberate. "Sam… I have someone back home."
"You do?" Sam repeated.
"Yeah," Al answered. "I have someone waiting for me." He waved a hand, as if indicating the future from which he'd come.
"Who? Family?" Sam asked.
"I don't know," he admitted. "It's a woman, but I don't remember who."
"The Swiss Cheese effect will do that," she replied sympathetically.
Al's attention was mostly focused on the opposite wall, though he offered Sam a sidelong glance. "Who is it?"
"Hmm?" she asked, looking up from her handlink.
"Who's waiting for me?" Al clarified.
"I don't know," she answered.
"Sam, you know everything about me," Al pressed. "You have to know who's waiting for me to come back."
"…I can't tell you, Al," she admitted after a moment.
"Why not?" he asked.
She shrugged slightly. "Rules."
"Oh, bullshit, Sam," Al replied, turning to look at his hologram observer more critically. "You broke the rules when you told me what my last name was when I first started leaping."
Sam looked almost cornered. "Al, I really can't-"
"Who is it?" he pressed.
After a moment, Sam smiled sadly and replied, a little haltingly, "Penso she questo è qualcosa che dovrete trovare sul vostro, Albert."
Al considered the words-Italian. Yeah, he spoke Italian. Something about Sam speaking less-than-perfect Italian seemed really fami- And then it hit him; he looked over at her, almost stunned. "Y-"
The smile Sam gave Al in reply was a faint, warm one. "If anyone asks, you found out on your own."
