The OHS principal called me today to offer me the Director position for the Drama Club's spring show.
As many of you know, I worked with FHS's Drama Club for three years because I got the "We won't even be able to have a play without a director, and you'd be so good for the job," and once again, I am a total sucker for the same plea.
However, the OHS job has a few more things going for it:
- Better pay
- They actually have a Drama budget (what!?!)
- OHS has an auditorium (instead of a gymnatorium with the scariest rigging and blocked off wings or drama room stage with a dead VW A/C unit).
- Oberlin schools have a significant amount of support for the arts (whereas Firelands... doesn't).
- Not having to share space with sports or study halls (I'll be damned if I have to dodge softballs, runners, or pieces of gum stuck to the set).
- Most of the students live within walking distance of the school, so rides aren't as big of an issue.
- The auditorium has a working sound system (not a necessity, but hey, I'll take it).
- Did I mention the gloriousness of not having to put on a show with $500 or less?
- The possibility of not being asked for my hall pass ("I work here, dammit!")
One significant drawback:
Regardless of my apprehension to throw myself back into high school drama, I'm pretty excited about it. I just have to think about the time I overheard Becky explaining two-fers to her peers and how it filled me with an overwhelming sense of joy...
