Alright, so a week ago, I interviewed for a part-time nanny position in Grafton. They super-liked me. I liked them, too! The little girl was super smart and funny and didn't want me to leave. Then they called and said they'd chosen someone else. They felt I was worth more than they could afford on a regular basis, but they'd still like me for evenings sometimes, and to do some upholstering.
Then I met a family in Oberlin. I had replied to an ad in the Oberlin Classifieds, and she said she'd already offered the position to someone, but thought I seemed wonderful and wanted to have me meet her kids and sit for them sometimes. They were really great, and I'm already sitting for them in early September during a Conservatory event (her husband is the dean).
A couple days ago, I received a message from a mother on Care.com who said she'd like to meet me. Today I went to Sheffield Lake to meet her, her husband and two kids (16 months and 3.5 years), and they offered me the job! It's $9/hr and 40-45 hours per week. I'm starting tomorrow morning, and they said it's fine if I decide it's not going to work for me or if I get a better offer or whatever, just that they'll need a heads-up.
As I've said before, if I don't have a full-time job (with benefits) by September, that's when I'll begin grad school applications. Therefore, I still plan on doing that and see where it takes me.
The point is, though, I have a job. It's not exactly using my degree, it doesn't have health care benefits, and it's a half-hour commute, but my goodness, it's money.
Now to figure out which nights I'm going to get rid of at the Apollo. Quite frankly, I don't think I want to work 60 hours a week.
