All I want to say is this:
Tonight, Anders and I went to see Hairspray. I've yet to see the original John Waters film or the stage musical. That being said, I really do believe that this was one of the best cinematic adaptations of a musical I've ever seen (I'm talking about in this new trend of musical movies, not counting older classics like West Side Story, 'cause clearly nothing can compare with those). But, seriously, this movie was great. It used the space of film well (unlike The Producers), it didn't try to be more groundbreaking and significant than it was (unlike Dreamgirls), it wasn't over-the-top (unlike Chicago), and it wasn't crappily filmed and edited (unlike The Phantom of the Opera). It was probably the most fun and entertaining movie I've seen all year. If the Oscars had a category for "Most Fun Movie," I think this should win.
Also, it's far and away John Travolta's best acting performance since Pulp Fiction. (Which may not be saying a lot, considering what a crapfest his career has become, but still.)
Also, when did Amanda Bynes become hot?
That's all for now.
