Update on Things

For those of you who haven't heard, I'm staying with Kate's aunt in downtown Bel Air this summer. Woo!

I'm currently on the look-out for employment, as Christine tells me Learning How isn't looking for any extra help at the moment. Right now I'm eying a part-time day position as a host for a funeral home in Bel Air, but if that doesn't work out I suppose I'll try Wawa or the mall. If you know of any decent place that's hiring, let me know.

I'm just about finished with my schedule for next semester. The only thing I need to do is get departmental consent for one of the classes, which I'm told shouldn't be hard... as soon as I figure out how to do it. Anyhow, here's a little something what my schedule ought to look like:

Intro to Studying English - MW 11:00-12:15
Modern Irish Literature - MW 12:30-1:45
Spanish Conversation and Comp. I - MW 2:00-3:15
Script Analysis - TTh 12:30-1:45
Physical Geography - TTh 2:00-3:15

I'm pretty excited about it. Originally I was planning on taking a lab, but I realized that doing so while on academic warning would probably not be the best idea. (Academic warning continues through the semester after which it was instated.) I spent a lot of time looking at my course catalog to find a replacement, and when I found Modern Irish Lit, it sounded pretty intriguing. I had originally been planning to take Solving Literary Problems to fulfill a GenEd, but that course was at the same time as the Irish Lit one. I looked around to find other courses that would satisfy the GenEd requirement in a different time slot and found Script Analysis.

When I looked up the instructors on RateMyProfessors.com, I was pretty pleased with what I saw, especially for Script Analysis. And considering that they both sound really interesting, well... I think it's going to be a really good semester.

Plus, I'm going to be in the Glen Towers, around a bunch of friends, and-more importantly-directly in front of the Glen Dining Hall. I'm going to try to go to Ballroom Dance more often, and from what I hear, RCC should be having some awesome trips lined up. I'm also going to try to get involved in Grub Street (the lit mag), and I'm definitely going to submit stuff either way. I'm thinking that I should probably put becoming an officer for RCC off for at least another semester, as I want to be able to commit myself to my academics when need be. I've been doing enough tripping up already without all those extra responsibilities, and well... let's just see if I can make it through this time without totally effing up.

At any rate, I'm super stoked. Things are starting to fall in place, and that's a very comforting feeling.

EDIT: I decided I couldn't justify taking Intro to LGBT Studies instead of a GenEd, so in its place I'm taking Physical Geography. A little less exciting, but... what can you do?

I also realized that I'm going to need more than 15 credits for at least 2 semesters in order to graduate on time, so I'm eying a course on Virginia Woolf (M4-6:40) taught by my current Brit Lit professor. I'm trying to decide whether or not it's wise to take that kind of workload while on academic warning, especially considering that I'm already taking another lit class. We'll see, though.
