First, on a different note:
Lucas lets Robot Chicken loose on Star Wars -- yep, a whole RC SW show. Hot damn, that should be fun! June 17th.
Yeah, spoilers.
We engaged in that time-honored tradition of going to the drive-in with friends to watch and snark at summer blockbusters.
So, Pirates 3 is everything you'd expect it to be -- completely over-blown, lucuious visuals, plots twisting on each other like snakes , and all around fun. Superb movie-making this isn't, but that doesn't make it any less the blockbuster stuff you'd expect. There's almost too much to see in some spots, but I am not sure that some of that wasn't due to the nature of the drive-in. None of the acting is subtle, nor should it be. Richards and Depp have some really neat moments, but not much more than moments. The scenery is apparently dressed with butter and capers, because it just gets devoured by the actors, and that was fine by me. Depp and Rush bouncing off of each other is a joy.
Okay, Geoffrey Rush could read a phone book and I'd pay to see it, that I'll hapily admit. And he's got a ton of air time, which makes a fan-girl happy. =)
We saw Shrek 3 as well, and again -- it was cute, snide, and everything you'd expect.
Maybe "everything you would expect" is a good thing when it comes to franchises?
Anyway, I'm scattered today, and less-than-totally-coherent, but it was fun.
