Henry/Ryeowook
The person closest to Ryeowook's heart returns him the most precious thing.
"I'm coming back," Henry chirps brightly and he imagines the smile on Ryeowook's face on the other end of the call. "I'm coming back to see you," he says softer and gentler this time, and this time, he doesn't see the tears that fall from Ryeowook's eyes.
Henry returns a week later and Ryeowook pretends to smile the whole time. He notices the apparent changes in his friend -- how those mellow shy eyes shine brighter now and how his tired smile has become so charming, warm and honest -- everything is so unfamiliar. He realizes how Henry's absence from his life for two years is actually a very, very long time.
"How have you been living all these years?" Ryeowook asks out of politeness, but he doesn't hear the answer.
He learns that the real reason Henry has returned is not for Kim Ryeowook after all. How could he ever be?
"I can't stay here forever, Ryeowook. I must go home," Henry tells him solemnly one night as he begins to empty his room in their shared apartment since college. He has a flight back to Canada two days from now. Ryeowook smiles bitterly at Henry's turned back: Henry's home isn't here, not by his side.
Ryeowook watches wordlessly as the things that reminded him of Henry every single day since the other left years ago get slowly erased and disappear. Volumes and volumes of books and smaller boxes go into the large cardboard box like a puzzle cube being completed while pieces of his heart and memories empty away.
He sees Henry place the final item into the box to be sealed and shipped home -- the wooden photo frame with a photograph of the both of them smiling happily together inside. Ryeowook smiles the same way he does in the photograph one last time and lets his dream collapse before his eyes.
When Henry leaves, he unknowingly leaves behind the most precious thing that has ever belonged to him -- Ryeowook's heart.
