Review: Batman Under the Red Hood

In a word? Bad ass.

I don't know if it's sad that Warner Premiere is putting out some of my favorite movies these days, especially since they're all animated and straight to DVD, or if they are just that awesome.  I thought Jensen did a great job as Jason/Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris managed to bring that natual charm to Nightwing, and just knowing that Jason Issacs voiced Ras Al Ghul gave me a little flutter.  The animation was as great as I expected it to be and those action/fight sequences? Bad. Ass.  Even after more than a decade of watching the Timmverse series and movies, that whole team of writers/animators/directors/casting/producers just never cease to amaze me.  Even the movies that didn't earn the big bucks (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern: First Flight) were still amazing to me, and B:UtRH is up there.

Know what else I love about these DVDs?  The Special Features.  If you get the two disc set (which I always do), there is a pretty awesome little documentary on Dick Greyson!Robin, and we get a first look at Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, which I seriously can't wait for.

So, Under the Red Hood gets a thumbs way up.  I can see myself watching this over and over again like I did with S/B: Public Enemies.  (Both Public Enemies and Crisis on Two Earths have a permanent spot on my iPod along with select eps of Smallville Season 9.  I think Red Hood may have earned that coveted spot as well.)
