Oh honey I hear you about these two series. Love, love Justice League/Unlimited as well as the original Superman The Animated Series. I am one who used to watch Superfriends every Saturday morning, Gleek and all as well as the Adam West Batman series and Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman but what I loved about the later animated series is that they weren't "cartoony" but more adult per se so these JL/JLU got me primed for Batman Begins/The Dark Knight et al.
And as you said about Smallville despite the many wonky turns SV took and the times I had wanted to take a Kryptonite bat to the writers' keyboard, I still love the show and thank the gods that AlMiles left and Brian and Kelly (and Tom) took control of the show and have "righted" many wrongs but also have expanded and made certain aspects of the Superman story so much better. SV has made Clark Kent such deeply layered character that I love dare I say more than Superman until I watch an episode of JL ;). And isn't it great that where Clark once said that he preferred not to think about destiny to him flat out saying he knows what his destiny was and he wasn't going to be dissuaded, he wasn't going to leave Earth. Oh I just loved those scenes in Salvation.
