I'm going to talk about Harry Potter today, both because I was asked about it twice in
my last post and because I feel like it today. In case you're either the last person on earth to hear or just want a date refresher,
the OOP movie comes out the eleventh, and
the seventh book comes out on the twenty-first. If I wanted to wax all sappy I would go on about how it's bitterweet and circular, but I don't, so I'll just point it out and move along.
It's a Harry Potter sort of month, and I'm taking it as a nice birthday gift. The movie should be good, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to it. I'll be watching it with
minerva710 at the border between the tenth and eleventh, at
Valley View in Roanoke. But the real deal is the release of
Deathly Hallows on 21 July.
For the book, I'm driving to Richmond, which I think will be good. My favorite memory of Harry Potter is spending all day Saturday when
Order of the Phoenix was released (on 21 June, 2003) sitting around with
sleepinbeauty and
misirlou reading. Though we started separately, we were within a hundred pages or so of each other, and stopped from time to time to have conversations about the events as we read them. I'm hoping we can do something like this again this year, especially with this being our last chance. (Start driving, Travis.)
I've promised
several of
my friends that I'll be at Barnes and Noble in Short Pump for the release party, dressed as our beloved
Severus Snape, and probably carrying around something containing hot water and dry ice. I'm really hoping I don't get hit by little kids. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm going out on a limb with this. I always said Snape was interesting, but I didn't dream he would get as interesting to everyone as he always was to me.
So while I'm on the subject, let's take a moment to discuss. My opinion is in the title of this post and the icon I'm using (which I made immediately after reading
Half-Blood Prince. But then, he's been my favourite character since...*counts on fingers*...1999, (Holy crap, that's a long time!) so obviously I may be biased, here. What do you think?
