The Thesis

Listening is very crucial to any relationship but especially in friendships and affairs. There are so many times in life where the fake smile and “Hi how you doing” “Great, thanks” doesn’t feel right at all. As I have grown older I have actually become disgusted with the facades of everyday life. I have learned something very useful and profound in my life last year from my girlfriend. The thesis has little flaws yet is very true in many cases. The thesis is hard to understand if the one who is listening does not perceive things that are of a more “deep” or “philosophical” nature. Anyway here it goes. In life there are a variety of people and those people fit into sections of deepness. Just like bodies of water. People range from puddles to oceans. This also has a lot to do with the way people act in a group. Puddles for example, at least in high school, are only about drinking and living recklessly and never really examine themselves to actually evaluate their actions. They have to be a certain person when they are around others. They can never really grasp an abstract idea or give their opinions on unanswerable questions. They become their facade. Fake is the perfect word to describe them. Oceans on the other hand are very philosophical and are intrigued by questions that stretch their minds. Oceans have no problems being themselves all the time. Peer pressure is wasted on these individuals. They are themselves. Oceans don’t have to prove themselves but are happy to give you their opinions. Oceans are very hard to find nowadays. I don’t even think of myself as an ocean because I know that when I get around others I kind of lose myself. It is not the most popular thing to be an ocean; in fact in today’s society, because puddles are abundant, oceans are scarce. It is not easy to find oceans though. They must be sought out mostly one on one or in the strong group of friends mentioned above. Notice that neither of these groups is subjected to race, religion, creed, social status, age, or gender.
