Finally uploaded all my pictures! I didn't take that many "OTL Also it's delayed because I had to get caught up in my finals, which I have and decided to take a break and make this write-up.
This was the weekend of Hetalia for me, because:
FRIDAY: I was Children's Day Canada.
SATURDAY: I was Iceland.
SUNDAY: I was...Hockey!Canada with my brah Tori as Hockey!America. Oh yeah, we went there (+ pictures to come).
It was a lot fun (the con as a whole, I mean) but I dunno, it didn't have the same feel as Saboten did. Maybe that's just me? I am not sure if it has to do with location or the attendees or maybe just the simple fact that Saboten is a con devoted to anime and video games while ComiCon covers those AND Western comics AND scifi AND a slew of other things.
FRIDAY
Bree and I drove to the Super 8 motel where we stayed the whole weekend, a bit less than a mile from the Phoenix Convention Center. Yoli had a 1-5 class so she wouldn't be joining us till later!~ Luckily our apartment was like, 15 minutes away from inner city Phoenix. Which is a very different place at night. 0___0 Just another reminder of how much I really don't like living in Phoenix. Mesa my forever home ;___; Anyway. Bree got changed into Vanille and I into little Canada.
"I'm so gangsta, I'm so thug~" (on a side note, this song is actually Yoli's and my Raijin/Fujin song lol) Bwahaha, Vanille hijacks Canada' camara.
Bree may have not had a wig for Vanille yet, but she IS Vanille I kid you not. No acting needed. she also perfected Vanille's default pose. :3
Okay so Friday was kind of boring I guess? I ran into the Hetalia crowd but I clung to Bree the entire time LOL. No offense but there's so many new people there, the Tuscon crowd I believe, and they're all kinda hyper :S Nice people of course, but overwhelming. I did run into Bariah and Joyce, who make one of the sweetest Austria/Hungary couples out there~ <3
This HRE's hat was hollow so people were just putting random stuff in. XD
Ashlynn! :) As Fem!America. Looks fabulous, dahlin'.
I don't know who this Korea is but I keep seeing her! She's actually really nice. Her little sister was following her around, and they were both wearing hanboks, so adorable! ;3; but then she (the younger sister) tried to run off with my Kumajiro and I had to put a stop to that...
Bree was acting kind of emo because she wasn't in Hetalia garb (she's gonna be North Italy in the future though) and so the Hetalia peeps weren't really talking to her, so I decided to stop that and we went to see a panel or two together before heading back to the hotel to meet up with Yoli.
Yoli's Lightning outfit was mostly done, actually, but she chose not to wear it for some reason. I told her little details like buckles were not going to be really obvious to most people but she's like, "NO! IT MUST BE PERFECT >8(" so she got a schoolgirl outfit and went as fanart!Lighting. Though people kept thinking she was from Shakugan no Shana because of it. ^^;
Her Lightning wig is THE best Lightning wig. It was like $50 bucks I think, but it's a lovely color and styled to look very natural.
We ran into a Hope cosplayer on the way back to the convention center, and she was a dear! Obligatory Hope and Vanille plus Lightning pics were taken.
My personal favorite. X3
That was all for Friday's pics. We went to a voice actor panel with Mike McFarland (who is HILARIOUS, I love this man omg) and Colleen Clinkenbeard (also hilarious).
SATURDAY
Iceland day! I cannot express how much fun it is to be Iceland, because his clothes are dang comfy, even those boots that are kind of tight at the toetips but who cares they were only $27 including shipping from China and I reject the movie!Iceland whose boots are freakin' gray. :|
Yoli got a couple "artistic" shots of me on the way to the cc. Bree kept making faces at me so my own face is kind of derpish.
Also got some of Yoli and Bree by this really cool mosaic thing. Okay one of Phoenix's major redeeming points is that it's a haven for the fine arts. They even built the world's first musical instrument museum with instruments from every country. I have yet to go see it but that sounds pretty awesome. So anyway, being an artsy city the architecture is really cool and these colorful walls are very abundant if you know where to look!
Yoli is so pretty, but she keeps denying it and says she's fat. BAH!
FUSION~~~
And the rest of Saturday? I hung out with Yoli and Bree and Rachel (who came later as Princess Peach) and went to panels all day.
The only panel of note, besides the very informative Dub Your Own Anime and meeting John Schneider (who is such a nice man, very fatherly), was the Jpop vs. Kpop panel. There's a random number of rounds, and each round has two music videos, one kpop and one jpop. Then the audience votes on which one they like best. Rachel and I went mostly to support our Johnny's boys (WHOO ARASHI WON IN THEIR ROUND, and all thanks to their 'Troublemaker' PV because that vid is amazing on multiple levels) because there wasn't a JE panel like there was at Saboten. KAT-TUN disappointed though in their round because the PV for 'Love Yourself' is very boring! Neat concept, but when the upbeat music comes around, the guys just sit around and sing--I'm like, "what is this? Whatever happened to 'Rescue'?" What about Nakamaru's beat-boxing unggghhh. If the panelists had played 'Rescue' than they would have blown their kpop opponent out of the water. :S
High points in kpop were BEAST's 'Shock' PV where everyone in the audience threw their arms up at the chorus, and Suju's 'Bonamana' which just had everyone staring in awe. They played G-Dragon's 'Heartbreaker' but the version with Flo-Rida...I don't like that version. And then I prefer G-Dragon with BIGBANG. He can sing, why does he use autotuning so much--you know, never mind, I think the main issue I have with kpop is their love affair with autotuning and it's why I'm very skeptical about most of the groups. (However! This new band INFINITE just debuted and they use autotuning for like two seconds in their 'Come Back Again' PV, but they also work it in their favor and I'm interested to see where these guys go. :) ) So kpop ended up winning the competition which left me with mixed feelings.
As it were, the panelists were only playing artists who had come out with PVs in the last 3-5 months. (So I wonder why Arashi's 'Monster' PV wasn't chosen to compete? Just came out a month ago...It's got a really nice concept. But maybe Jun's fail dancing would have not worked in their favor. xD) Anyway, this is why NEWS wasn't in the competition either, or other Johnny's like Hey!Say!JUMP, unfortunately. I really think NEWS would have appealed to people. They're not anything fancy, but they're such utter, crazy dorks you just can't help but watch them. Liiike 'Koi no ABO' (they used the whole ABO thing before f(x) made it popular =_=) where they go all Elvis in some bar with some senior citizens. Umm others...the Wonder Girls were fab as usual...Ayumi Hamasaki wins at life, but just her luck she had to go up against 2NE1's 'Follow Me'. Um yeahhh no contest there. ^^; But I liked both a lot.
I found some new artists I've become fond of listening too, like Inoue Joe (he's just such a happy guy! And speaks fluent English, I hear) and Abingdon Boys School (which I just found out does all this anime music I love but had no idea it was them). Main singer has a delicious voice.
I think that covers Saturday haha. I didn't really get to see anybody that day, and for that I apologize. (I missed you Nikki! ;___; and Morgan and Suzy and Ashlynn and pretty much everybody else from Sabo) My phone died early in the morning and I didn't want to go all the way back to the hotel and plug it in and leave it there.
SUNDAY
I drove to Cecalie's house where Tori was staying so her and I could get ready for our Hockey Bros. This was a surprise, and I believe only Nikki, Sara, and maybe Spence? knew about it before the Hetalia gathering. We each had jerseys and gloevs, and she let me borrow her brother's hockey socks and stick. Also we each had a corresponding black eye but it's hard to see in most of the pictures.
Ummm so the gathering started early for some reason? I heard it was noon, or between noon and 1pm, but apparently it started around 11:45. So people showed up late and things had already been winding down. :( My qualm was the setting: the ballroom lobby may have been the only suitable place to have such a large group but the lighting was terrible. However, the only alternative was to go outside and it was freakin' June, so no one in their right mind would do that in Hetalia costume.
Spence and Sara's fabulous Pirate Englands.
Photos of the Epic North American Hockey Fight nabbed from various peoples~
Tori stuck a flag on my forehead. D:
I forgot to take it off until after I went and got a sammich at Subway. ^^;
The-Laurasaur's entire gathering shot:
And this nice one of Tori downing a gatorade.
Rachel's mom had a much nicer camara so she got some of me after the gathering disbanded (and went to Burger King; again I apologize for ditching but I was just ready to be done for the weekend and sought comfort with my equally mellow roommates and the darling Rachel).
I realized how much fun a prop is! I don't have to stand around looking like a doofus wondering what pose to take--my prop decides for me! :D :D :D
Here's our little group:
We are such a motley crew, no?
ALSO! Some gag shots of my friends from school in their FFXII cosplays (Bree and Yoli ditched me on Saturday to take pictures with them). They are all awesome though. |D
Poor Kai, who was Snow, got literally attacked by fangirls. And it was his first con, too. =_=
Anyway, that about wraps up PCC/Memorial day weekend. Oh boy I cannot wait for Sabo. My roommates and I along with the Serah and Fang are planning an Ouran group. Yoli and I are Hikaru and Kaoru respectively because we play off of each other. 8D Bree's Hunny because...she is Hunny IRL. Plus I will be helping Bree make a Guy Cecil outfit for me to wear on whatever day Johnny Yong Bosch is taking autographs, haha. And if they get Jihl Nabaat done in time, I'll wear that too. We shall see.
ETA: sorry the pics are so large! ...too lazy to resize.
