My Book

This is a bit off topic, but I think that I am going to change the name of my book. It was originally titled "The " [insert my first name, middle initial, and last name] "Story". Now, I think that I have a better title; "Accelerated Learning". I, and those around me, are being accelerated more than any generation prior. Accelerated in both body and mind.

Soda is now sold in twenty-ounce bottles, instead of the eight-ounce bottles of my father's day. Each serving is 150% more! Students are working harder and staying up later. Never before have this many advanced placement courses been offered.

What are the social implications of societal acceleration? The average American works 39.5 hours a week, and works on average 50 more hours per year than the average citizen of Japan. The only industrialized nations where people on average work more hours per year are the Czech Republic and South Korea. We are working more than our parents, but to what avail? When will this trend stop? Studies in Japan have found that the risk of death greatly increases when people sleep on average two hours a day. When will this trend of increasing hours halt? What is the optimal number of hours for a person to work to acheive the maximum GDP?

I wonder what my children will have to deal with.
