Yikes, haven't had a week like this in some time.
First of all, around Monday/Tuesday or so the furnace only started working "when it felt like it", and with temperatures all that week around
-20C it didn't make our house a fun place to be. Especially when the furnace quit working altogether on Thursday morning. Given that the thing was older than I was (I saw a date sticker on it of 1964, but they suspect it came with the house, which was built in the 50s) I'm sure it was bound to happen, but why this week? Thursday night the heating company guy came over and we arranged to buy a new furnace, which they spent all day Friday installing. Did a good job, however, they had to tear the paneling off some walls and not being a good handyman (I usually get a friend who does home repairs for a living to help with such things) I don't have faith in my ability to put it back, so for now the wall studs are exposed and paneling is laying about.
Also, a good friend of our family passed away suddenly Friday morning (sudden cardiac arrest), he wasn't that much older than I. He left behind a wife and a young daughter just a few weeks younger than my daughter (she's my daughter's best friend), so it's been hard on everyone and we're trying to help out their family as much as we can. (This friend, by the way, was the aforementioned home handyman - I guess this should be a wake-up call to me to start learning how to do these things myself.)
I also had a comedy gig on Saturday - my first paid one, which was great (I was booked to do a show for a company Christmas party), with all that has been going on this week, I'm surprised I actually could do it, but I managed to make it through the set, some of it went off really well, some didn't, and found myself coming up way shorter than I wanted to (but again, my mind was in so many places this week)
