American Idol/Broadway Week - The OMG'ers and The WTF'ers.

Apr 23, 2008 14:16

Here I am again, breaking my promise not to blog about AI. I just can't help it now. Like Gossip Girl (speaking of which, is BACK, bitchezzz!), this season's AI is my guilty pleasure. I really don't care what happens to this bunch, but I find myself drawn, nonetheless. Ugh. I am kinda hating myself for this. I wish I never tuned in to that Mariah Week. Grrr.

Anyway, I wasn't too excited about Broadway Week, more specifically Andrew Lloyd Weber Week, although I know some of his songs (God knows I used to sing "You Must Love Me" with my mum). I even forgot that AI was on today. But when I got to the office, I saw my AI Addicted Frenemy Justin blogging like crazy again. I could not resist the temptation and downloaded tonight's performances. Overall, it was okay, a bit so-so, although I'd say it was a huge improvement from last week's pathetic performances. Here's a rundown of who I think rocked this week, and those who, let's just say, failed to meet expectations. And for the purposes of simplicity, I made two groups for those who sucked and those who didn't. Let's start with:

The OMG'ers:

This group sang their hearts out tonight. All of them deserved the "OH MY GOD, that was awesome!" reaction they got from me. Now, I'm not saying they were THAT good, I'm just saying that I am so amazed that they did not botch the songs, and that the people in this group aren't exactly my favorites. So the fellas who got into this group are the following:

Carly, Syesha, David C., in that order, with Carly having the strongest performance.

Carly sang "Jesus Christ, Superstar" with such awesomeness, self-abandon, and confidence, it totally blew me away! I think this is the strongest I've seen her so far! There was no hint of uncertainty in her voice, and she sang the perfect song. The notes were perfect, it wasn't a bland performance. You'd almost think she was singing the song with Jesus in front of her! You could feel the emotions from the song. OMG, Carly. Please, please continue on with this. I SO want you to win. :c But as my Frenemy Justin said, Carly is the Mistress of Inconsistency. She can beat the sh*t out of anyone today, but can be really wrong the next. Please Carly, don't play with my heart. I can only take so much. :p

Syesha. What can I say? My first (and lasting) impression of her was as someone talented but forgettable. There's no buzz about her. Sure, she looks classy and pretty, but I don't know why she just doesn't SHINE for me. Whatevs. But last week, she was good. She also proved herself this week. If I didn't love Carly so much, Syesha would've been on the top of my list. Syesha sang "One Rock n' Roll Too Many." It was REALLY good. I think the song was perfect for her, she played with it very well, she sounded in control of her voice (which is something I cannot say for MOST of the contestants). The bad thing is, Syesha sang first. And from what I heard from people (Justin), singing first, and singing a Mariah or Heart song, is equivalent to suicide. Unless you were so OUT of this WORLD amazing, people are going to forget you if you sing first. Too bad, Syesha. I don't think she'd be booted off, though. I'd hate it if she'd go.

Last on my OMG'ers List is David Cook. He's last mainly because I don't like him. For me, he tries too hard to be a rocker. There's no denying his talent, that's why it's frustrating for me when he tries to put it out there all the time. Okay, you're a Rocker, we get it. But can you do anything else? Well tonight, DC proved that he could! He sang "Music of The Night" WITHOUT actually sounding like he was on a stage in a rock concert in wherever, sweating like crazy and probably smelling of beer and cigs. It was appropriate, pitch perfect, and another bold move from him! I was amazed. However, when he hit that last note, it completely destroyed it! He did one of those Rocker screams again which did not fit at all with how he sang the rest of the song. UGH! DC just can't seem to let go of his image. If he just sang that last note ala Broadway, this performance would've been the one to convert me into a DC fan. UGH. I guess that won't be happening YET, eh, Mr. Rocker?

Now for the second list, these are the people who did so bad, they should be limited to singing in a bar during amateur night. Ugh. Disgusting. They deserve (more or less) the "WHAT THE F*CK WAS THAT!" reaction I gave their performances tonight. With no further ado, here are:

The WTF'ers:

Brooke, Jason, David A., in that order, with David A. having the worst performance.

I think Brooke is genuinely nice. I like her. Unfortunately, she seems to have memory loss problems ala Dory (or was that Dora?) in that fish cartoon flick. She botched the lyrics (AGAIN!) of her song "You Must Love Me." Blasphemy, I tell you. Everyone knows this song, if not from Broadway, but from the Evita Movie with Madonna! ARGH! She actually had to do the first few lines AGAIN! After that, she just seemed to deflate. You could hear it in her voice, as if she was thinking "WTF. I'm dead. Bye, y'all!" Ugh. Brooke! I seriously like you over Syesha. But I really think you're going, bb. Don't fight it. People will hate you if you do. They'll think you're another Kristy Lee with nine lives. I'm sure you'll be a success. Or you'll be a great mom. Are you already? Whatev. Kthnx.

Jason, Jason, Jason. I love you, you know? I think you're hot, and cute, and charming. HOWEVER, I am tired of your breathy singing, accompanied by botched notes and you trying to make up for them by smiling and winking and shrugging your shoulders. I am not that crazy over you, you know! You sound like your just hitting puberty, with the way your voice suddenly spikes up. Srsly, control is the key here, Jason, and change. If you keep singing this way, even your hotness wouldn't save you. And " Memory" is such a good, sad, song! You could have done a lot to it, changed it, played with it a bit. I am NOT impressed.

David A. I used to like this kid. I still think he's awesome even if he hasn't been doing good in my book. But after last week, he's just dead for me. He can get booted off and I couldn't care less. I'd just shrug and sing, "Bye bye, DA" ala Mariah. He's got a bright future ahead of him, so who cares if he gets booted off early. DA sang "Think of You" in the same boring, i'm-good-at-ballads-so-imma-keep-on-singing-them, kind of way. I don't know really. It was good. BUT it was also safe. He just doesn't take risks, doesn't sing age appropriate songs, doesn't sing something fun! WTF, David?! I just want to go up the stage and smack him! GRRR!

SO there. Tell me what you guys think. Am I over reacting? Are my choices of who should belong to the OMG'ers and WTF'ers wrong? Should I even BLOG about AI?

*sigh*

Oh, how I wish this season was over. :c
