Tonight my mom & I went to this restaurant next to this river in this cute little town we're in. Its a somewhat odd town; its got and Olde Towne, but its sort of trying to be New Englandish. And it only half works in this off, mismatched, cute sort of way.
Anyway, we were eating outside, and from under the eaves of the building next door start emerging dozens of bats. Two or three dozen at least easily. I really, really like bats. They are my favorite small, maligned creature. Anyway, I'd really like a legion of obedient bats to do my bidding. Think about it - they are small, cute, can fly, can see in the dark and freak a lot of people out. Sweet.
And then we went looking for a grocery store and came upon one selling CURRANTS and GOOSEBERRIES!!! Black and red currants!! It felt very British. I've never actually seen either in a grocery store, and in fact don't think I've heard much of them outside of British novels. I really want to go back at some point this weekend and buy some of both, just to say that I've tried both currants and gooseberries.
