My Grand Plan (copyright) to keep my mind of things that are currently making depressed (for examples, see past few journal entries) involved diving head first into a new and shiny fandom to distract me.
Fandom of Choice: Band of Brothers
People, to cheer myself up I'm immersing myself in a fandom where people get blown up, there are actual concentration camps and one of my favorite characters doesn't have any substantial lines for five episodes.
And, it's actually kinda working.
The show is amazing, the actors are wonderful, totally enthralling characters and it's visually stunning. I actually went out and bought the DVD set at Best Buy today (on sale! thanks to promo for The Pacific).
When I was in the isle with all the HBO shows there was only one other person there, a woman who looked around 50ish who looked surprised when we both picked up copies of Band of Brothers. She struck up the following conversation:
Her: Oh, is that for your father?
Me: No, it's for me.
Her: Really? Are you interested in World War 2?
Me: Not really, I just like this.
Her: (smiling knowingly) Eye candy?
Me: (somewhat laughing) It helps, but I needed something to cheer me up.
Her: You're buying Band of Brothers to cheer yourself up?
Me: It's been a long week.
Her: Watch the Ron Livingston video diary, it'll help.
Then her phone rang and she left and I stood in an isle of my local Best Buy laughing and, man oh man, I felt better than I had in days. It's nice to be remind that not everyone sucks.
So I have shiny new DVD's, candy and plenty of stories to go through.
But, my dear friends, how are you coping with this long long week?
fandom,
band of brothers,
