The Lost Debit Card: A Short Story of Mystery and Intrigue

One fine day not so long ago, I realized with much woe that I had a UTI. One of the many cures for this unfortunate ailment is cranberry juice, of which I had none. Still weak from my recent head injury, my kind and compassionate roommate said she would go out and fetch me some cranberry juice. I handed her my debit card so she could use my own ,money instead of hers. Off she went, into the dark and the cold. She returned not too long after that, bringing with her the cranberry juice. I was very grateful. I held out my hand for my debit card, wishing for it back.

But it was not in her pockets! Nor was it in her other pockets! She emptied all pockets, pulling out their contents and depositing them onto the table. The debit card was gone!

She was most distraught by this and apologized profusely. We decided upon the morrow to venture to the convenience store to see if anyone had found it. Then she went to bed, hanging her head in apology.

A short while later, I turned off the larger light in our apartment, wanting to enjoy the Christmas lights on our tree in the dimmer light. And what was that! A glint of something shiny on the tree, all the way inside, near the trunk! What is this, I wondered. I reached in and, much to my surprise, I pulled out my debit card!

How did it get there? How could it have ended up deep inside this Christmas tree when only an hour before, it had been in my roommate's pocket? I shared this event with her and she was as baffled as I was!

Perhaps, my friends, this mystery will never be solved, this query not answered. But I suppose I should be grateful for the return of my debit card into my waiting hands.

The End
