Despite all my jokes about annoying teenagers and being over-the-hill, I don't see an old man when I look in the mirror. In fact, many are the days when I still find that star-eyed youth, who just can't wait for tomorrow to arrive. But in mornings like this, when I have no choice but to squat down in a half-ball as I watch the pups go into the yard for their morning routine... I feel the old knee aching and burning and have to fight the urge not to crawl right back into bed once we're all inside the warmth of home.
Is this what growing old is about? I walked back in the house to hear the loyal companion speak in a squeeky voice - "It's chilly, brother!" Yes, indeed. 42oF worth of chilly. Expected high for today is 73oF in this part of the Commonwealth. As I type these words, the girls are already starting to wrestle around. The old grumpy cat enquires about my whereabouts. And it feels like a peppermint tea kind of morning...
