Funny thing about Vancouver, it's on the West Coast!

A couple of notes from the road:

The drive out here was the longest one day drive I had (950k), and my back was good after 12 hours on the road due to a five dollar neck pillow I had stuffed behind my back for lumbar support.  Best purchase of the trip.  GPS a close second.

Driving through the Coquihala (sp) there was juuuust enough smoke on the wind from forest fires to have me craving barbecue like nobody's business by the time I got to Van.

Strawberry banana pancakes from IHOP!  I'm officially on vacation.

Yesterday I spent two hours shopping on Commercial Drive, two hours walking through Stanley Park, and another hour trying to remember where I parked my car in Stanley Park.  D'oh!

Some of my purchases were a couple of CDs, one of which was a tribute to Iron Maiden by the most random assortment of heavy metal musician you've ever seen.  It's like they put everyone's name in a bag and did a random drawing.  Talents lever ranged from the sublime (George Lynch, Nuno Bettencourt) to the interesting (Lemmy, Chuck Billy) to the silly (Chris Jericho?  Really?).  Paul Di'Anno, have you no shame? ("What's that? You want to do a tribute album to the band that got really famous after I left it to do a solo album?  I can sing a song from one of the albums I did right?  Can I get paid in cash?  Sweet!  I'm in!")

The other music purchase of note:  Lee Press-On and the Nails, a jump-swing album featuring a rollicking version of Hot For Teacher.

I ate possibly the richest dessert I've eaten in my life last night.  A piece of chocolate 'cake' which was essentially a giant chunk of chocolate ganache.  Covered in chocolate and caramel sauce.  Oi.

If anything, this trip is going to feature some interesting sleeping options.  I've been on the road for 2 days and I've slept in a Murphy bed and the back of my car, and tomorrow will probably be in a motor home.

Speaking of which, I would rank my first night in the Yaris Hilton a C.  Some easily tweakable things can probably bring it up to a B-, but for this trip, that's about it.  Needs a firmer foamy, the crossbars across the back of the fold down seat are more prominent than I had initially thought. Next trip will be better.

And now, left over BBQ and white cheddar mashed potatoes.  Mmmmm.
