ramen, daejae, pg, warnings: mentions of death 2/2

He spends nearly half a year convincing a teen stupid from hair dye to run away from his foster home with him. It’s daily visits and a couple of kisses until the boy relents. Youngjae trails behind him for some time as they sleep on subways and trudge through the frigid frost of the city. He keeps wondering when Daehyun will finally kick the bucket so he can go back to sleeping warmly indoors with a radiator and a blanket.

Daehyun almost dies of starvation at one point, but lives, to Youngjae’s chagrin.

It would be lying, though, to say that the brat didn’t grow on Youngjae somewhat. And he's probably to blame for all the months spent out on the streets. He probably prolonged Daehyun's life expectancy each time he handed him his jacket on a particularly chilly night when none of the busses were running or gave his small morsel of food away. It’s not like he really needs them, anyway, they're really just for the comfort of having.

Yet, although the majority of their days were spent singing in subway stations for spare change, it was miserably perfect. He misses the nights they’d sit outside of a convenience store, eating a cup of noodles. The neon of the signs would hit their skin and the wind would sweep the scent of the noodles around the night. They didn’t need to say much, just take comfort in each other’s presence and slurp their cheap ramen. And if their hands interlocked, then that was okay too. Just more warmth to share.

Daehyun finally meets his end a year later after his runaway. His body collides with four thousand pounds of speeding steel when a car runs off course from the street (“drunk driver,” they say). Youngjae holds his hands and cries his heart out-- for three hours until he finally passes away.

They meet again in the basement of the hospital's morgue. Daehyun has questions and Youngjae answers them to the best of his ability. Youngjae forgets that not everyone stays dead. Which is a pity because dead is good.

Daehyun becomes just like Youngjae, too.

His bosses yell at him and rage over the amount of time it took for the entire process to happen. In his defense, it’s hard making someone die a natural death. They decide not to give him anymore recruitments for a while. This is also good.

Daehyun shadows Youngjae around for awhile as they work as a duo. Daehyun learns the ropes and goes to his first Assignment. A month later they meet in a bar and have a couple of drinks.

Sometimes they visit graveyards when the alcohol doesn't do as it should (meaning always). While it loosens their nerves and relaxes them, they still want to remember the reasons behind their drinking. It’s not fair if they’re allowed to forget otherwise. They also kiss, and a bit more, when that doesn't do anything for them either or really just cause.
