We had breakfast at a corner place called Lenny's near Kay's house. I got egg and sausage on a roll. It was pretty good. I saw a Sprite in a really great bottle, but didn't buy it. Maybe I will if I see it again.
We went to the World Trade Center memorial this morning. It was sobering. A very simple, poignant way of displaying things. Just like the OKC Bombing Memorial, they had a survivor tree. That was interesting.
That last picture is the new WTC, built next to the site of the old ones. It just surpassed the Empire State Building as the tallest building in NYC, and they're still building.
Afterward, we went to Century 21 again. No luck, everything was overpriced where I looked. On the way back to the train, though, we passed a small boutique clothing shop and I went in. The prices were great and the selection was just what I like. I bought a tank top, two short sleeved things to go over something sleeveless, and a sweater. ($30 total.) HOWEVER, there was a communal dressing room. that was weird. Just a bunch of girls all in the same room trying on their stuff. I just tried stuff on over my clothes.
We headed to meet Kay and his other friend at a cool place called High Line Park, I think. It used to be a rail system. They took out the train and instead of tearing up the place, they turned it into a park. It's pretty nice.
We took a taxi back to Kay's house and talked about Gma and other family stuff for most of the way. Then we packed up, and Kay headed for the airport and we headed to our hotel.
We booked our hotel with the hotel app on Jon's phone. It's awesome - it combs the area you tell it to, and finds you the best deal. It only works the day-of, which is bad for planning or if you want to stay in the same place over and over, but it was perfect for what we were looking for. Kay was flying to Utah tonight for a retirement party for my aunt (his mom), so we had one night in NYC without lodging. The hotel turned out to be GORGEOUS, and it was located right in Columbus Circle (and right across the street from a major subway station). We got an unbelievable deal on it and it was beautiful:
Jon was pretty sick (his allergies took a huge hit last night at the show), so he took a nap while I went to a stand across the street and bought some liege waffles and brought them back to the room. They were really good. I also bought a couple of chocolate bars and a pack of microwave popcorn. It was so funny - I bought them in a CVS-type of store called Duane Read, and when the lady scanned the chocolate bars, it turned out that you needed a DR card to get the buy-one-get-one-free. Apparently this is not a big deal, because the cashier just asked the lady next to me in line if she could scan her DR card for me. Haha!
I went back to the hotel and soaked my feet for awhile, in hot water. It helped a lot. Then Jon got up and we went to Greenwich to do laundry and shop a bit while the laundry was washing. I went into a couple awesome Indian stores. They have such pretty things. I didn't buy anything, but it was great to look. We had gyros for dinner in the shop next to the Christopher subway station. They are totally the best gyros I've ever had. I discovered the place when my family went to NYC a few years ago. Oh, man. They were amazing. (Dad was really impressed with them, too.) It must be how they season the lamb, or maybe they don't mix their lamb with other meats like most gyro places do. (A surprisingly small percentage of lamb is usually in those mixes. maybe 20%.)
We went back to the hotel and watched TV for awhile and went to bed. I got to take care of Jon a little, which is so cute because he hardly ever gets sick. cute. We got almost ten hours of sleep! It was AMAZING.
