Notes: This is my first Psych fanfic and only my third time ever writing a fanfic. I was going to do all ten songs, but I only did six and had to leave. I decided to post them right away to see if anyone liked them before doing the other four. I know 5 is really short, but it felt right.
*I just stumbled onto this account again after almost three years. It was posted on a recommendation site, and I instantly remembered it after all these years. I decided to read through some entries (including this one). I was a little horrified to see my apparent lack of writing skills back then. Anyways, I updated it somewhat.
1. Goodbye- Michelle Branch
Shawn couldn't do this anymore...no matter how he felt. He couldn't be someone's dirty, little secret. He didn't want to sneak around by his Jules's back or lie to Gus about his plans for the night. He didn't want put up another act in front of everyone. He already did that enough with his psychic visions. He didn't want to do this, but he knew he had to.
Shawn took a deep breath before plastering a fake smile across his face. He knocked on the familiar door. He rocked back and forth on his heels counting the seconds it took Lassie to open the door opened. It was seven seconds before he appeared. Shawn was tempted to make a poorly-timed joke and run away, but it was pointless. Lassiter could instantly see that something was wrong when he looked into his eyes; Lassie wasn't head detective for nothing. Acting quick to hold back his tears, Shawn silently walked past Lassiter into his barren living room.
No one spoke for a couple minutes, when Shawn decided he couldn't take the silence anymore. Looking into Lassie's hard, blue eyes one last time, he sighed. Deciding to let his emotions show for once, Shawn softly said, "You were the one I loved. The one thing I tried to hold on to. But it isn't enough." There was a long pause until Shawn looked away. Lassiter's silence said all that he needed to hear. Turning on his heel, Shawn muttered a faint, "Goodbye Carlton." Without waiting for any further response, Shawn walked out the door. He couldn't hold back the tears anymore. He didn't have to be psychic to know that Lassiter wasn't going to stop him.
2. Runaway Love- Ludacris featuring Mary J. Blige
He tried not to stare at her. She looked so fragile, too small even for her young age. She couldn't have been more than nine with her long brown hair covering her wide eyes. This little girl was too old for her age; her childhood stolen from her. Her green eyes told her story, and Lassiter was ready to listen. He was to tell her as much, when he noticed her cringing. She alternated between looking at him in fear and trying to make herself disappear. He realized this wasn't going to work. She couldn't trust him; she had to reason to trust him if his suspicions were right. Frowning, Lassiter walked out of the room and gestured towards O'Hara. She was always better with kids anyways.
He watched the girl through the one-way mirror as she smiled at his partner. He watched as she told O'Hara her name was Kayla and that she was turning eight in two weeks. He watched as she told her that she was running away. Away from her father that hit her a night and hugged her in the morning. The man accused of murdering his wife, this little girl's mother. As Lassiter listened, his fist clenched, and he turned away. It was times like this when he remembered why he became a cop.
3. That's so you- The Rocket Summer
He needed him. He refused to admit it out loud, but he needed Spencer to come back. It had been over a week since Spencer last stopped by putting his filthy shoes on his pristine desk before starting to run around throwing himself at anyone dumb enough to cross his path. He was "channeling" their murdered victim; not that he believed it for a second. It was hard to believe that a 85 year old woman would have touched him that inappropriately. Lassiter began to smile at that thought before coming to his sense. He quickly switched back to his normal glare while looking around the room for any witnesses. As crazy as Spencer was, he was part of the team now. He belonged there.
He was walking back to his desk when he saw the stuffed pineapple Spencer gave to O'Hara last week. It was innocently sitting on her desk next to an autopsy report. He shook his head and couldn't help but think that was so Spencer. Who had even seen a stuffed pineapple before? He had to have actually looked for that one, since it wasn't something a person picked up at the store. He had just sat down in his chair when he heard a commotion at the station's entrance. Looking up he saw Spencer walking towards his desk with a smile on his face. Even while pretending to sneer, Lassiter knew at that moment that today was going to be a good day.
4. Hot- Avril Lavgine
Shawn watched as Lassie placed his cuffs on the criminal's wrist and began to read him his rights. By the time they had left the room, he had to shift his jeans to keep everyone from seeing the growing problem in his pants. It probably didn't surprise anyone to find out that nothing turned Shawn on more than watching Lassie take control; the handcuffs were just an extra bonus. He was going to have to reward Lassie later for a job well done. Yeah he had to help them some, but in the end that didn't really matter. Well...maybe he will have to reward himself as well. He couldn't wait for Lassie to get home.
Hours later, Lassiter walked into his house after finishing all the necessary paperwork for their arrest today. He was exhausted, but it was worth it. He tensed when he hear a noise coming from upstairs. He made himself relax when he realized it was probably just Spencer. even after four months, he still wasn't use to Spencer sneaking in and making himself at home. With that thought in mind, he made a mental note to get more peanut butter the next time he went to the store. Lassiter walked up his stairs to see what Spencer was up to. Nothing prepared him for what he saw.
Shawn was lying on his bed in nothing more than white boxers with dancing pineapples on them. There were handcuffs sitting on the nightstand. Shawn gave his best sexy-time smile while basically purring at Lassiter, "You make me so hot."
5. Remedy- Seether
Carlton looked at Shawn attempting to balance five plates, two soccer balls and a pineapple. He closed his eyes and mumbled under his breath, "You'll be the death of me."
6. Minority- Green Day
Who wanted to fit in? Shawn prided himself on how much he stood out. No one could say that he tried too hard be normal. If anything people probably wished that he tried harder to fit in, so he wouldn't make such a scene wherever he went. But he didn't let that bother him, he didn't care what people thought. Well, that use to be true. Now there was one person that kind of made him want to be normal, Carlton Lassiter.
He wanted Lassie to stop looking at him as if he was a freak that belonged in a zoo instead of a police station. He wanted Lassie to hang out with him after a hard case instead of walking away with a glare on his face. Mostly, he wanted Lassie to like him. That is how Shawn looking at a distorted form of himself in the mirror. He was wearing a pale, sea-foam green buttoned collar shirt, that he may have borrowed from Gus without asking, paired with some simple black slacks. His hair was styled in a neat manner, and his face lacked its usual five o'clock shadow. He glanced at himself in the mirror one more time before heading out.
To say that people were surprised was an understatement. Almost everyone was looking at him, but no one had greeted him with more than a look of shock when he entered the police station. With a ready to please smile on his face, Shawn walked up to Lassiter's desk. His shadow finally made Lassiter looked up at him. There was a moment of blank confusion on his face before he glanced around the room. No doubt Lassie thought this was a trick of Shawn's at his expense. Shawn keep his smile in place while he slowly spun in a circle to give Lassie a full view. "What do you think?"
After a few seconds, Lassiter finally composed himself enough to mumble, "I liked you better before." With that said, he turned back towards his paperwork. That wasn't the reaction that Shawn wanted, but he couldn't help but smile. Lassiter liked how he looked before...when he was being himself. That is way better than he had hoped for.
