Title: Circus Lights
Fandom: RPS; MLB; Toronto Blue Jays
Pairing: Aaron Hill/Adam Lind, implied past Aaron Hill/Russ Adams
Rating:  G - The only thing possibly offensive is the male/male relationships, but seeing as whoever reads this most likely also writes slash...I don't think I have to worry.
Disclaimer: I do not in any way shape or form own these people, nor do I know them. To my knowledge, none of this ever happened. Also, I do not own the song. Circus Lights- Black Lab
A/N:  This is set on September 25th, 2006.

Come on spend the night under the circus lights
I want to see you high above the crowd
You know I've swallowed fire and I’ve fallen off the wire
A million times before
Are you asking me to show you more love?

September in Canada, not exactly what you could call ideal weather. But not cold enough to really whine about either.  Sixty-eight on a good day, fifty-two on a bad. It didn’t matter to them, warm or cold -- there was baseball to be played.

The circus better known as a season was almost over, only seven games, including today’s left. The Red Sox were in town, packing the Roger’s Center. The games meant nothing, they’d already been eliminated, as had Boston. But none of that mattered. Baseball was left to play, and nothing seemed sweeter.

More light, more heat
Are you asking me to take you, hold you, show you more?
More light, more heat
If you’re asking me then I’ll be there
When these circus lights go out

Aaron stared at the back of his head, lazily examining the auburn colored hair that covered his head. He had his head thrown back in laughter, facing lighting up in beautiful amusement. Aaron frowned, wondering what Jason said that was so funny, wishing he had made him laugh that way.

He wished he could shrug off  the grating feelings of jealousy. Adam was not his to own. Not his at all. Sometimes he couldn’t believe he was so over the moon for him, for Adam.  He was edging on pathetic.

~~
I’ll be the tattooed man, you can be the acrobat
I’ll try and catch you when you fall
And we’ll be together then like a pair of Siamese twins
Entwined against the ground
~~

Russ looked at Aaron from across the room, watching as he stared at Adam, unblinking. Aaron could be  really pathetic sometimes, mooning over the rookie. Not that he could really talk. He’d done the same thing when Aaron came up.

The merry-go-round feelings didn’t settle well, or the way Russ would have liked. He could still recall the flashing lights and dizzyingly slow circular movements of their circus like romance.

He wished he could hate the kid, but he can’t. There was just something undeniably innocent about him, that made Russ, like everyone else unable to dislike him.

Adam could feel eyes on him, wished they were Aaron’s probing greyish-blue eyes. Jason said something, he didn’t really know what, but he figured it probably warranted a laugh so he laughed as sincerely as he could. Jason seemed please with that, not noticing, or at least not caring about Adam’s distraction.

He looked over his shoulder catching Aaron’s eyes and smiling, a real smile. Aaron smiled back and Adam could swear Aaron’s eyes lit up, like a kid at a circus for the first time. Sappily, he thought he’d do anything to keep that light in his eyes.

I wake up to the sound of bells
A thousand girls in wedding veils
But all I want is you
Do you believe me?
Cause the one game that I never played
~~

Aaron looked down at his shoes, as if they were the most interesting thing in the world , breaking eye contact. He looked back up, his eyes dulled, but a smile painted in place. Waving -- if you could call it that -- quickly, he grabbed his glove and running through the tunnel, onto the field.

Adam followed, less than a minute later, yelling across the field where Aaron was playing catch with Lyle, false smile still in place, “Hey Aaron!”

Aaron’s smiled widened, into a genuine one and his eyes lit up like circus lights again, making Adam feel warm, as if he‘d hit the world-series winning home-run.

“Hi Lindy,” he replied, missing the balling being thrown.

The missed ball rolled to Adam, stopping at his feet. He walked the ball over, rather than throwing it. An excuse to talk to him.

“Here you go,” he said a bit dumbly, smiling. Passing the ball, their fingertips touched.

Electricity.

The one mistake I never made
Was to come right out and ask you if you need me
Do you need me now?
Cause I need more...

More light, more heat
Cause I’m asking please, take you, hold you, show you more love?
More light, more heat

If you’re asking me then I’ll be there
When these circus lights go out
When these circus lights go out…
