i still maintain FUNHOME (despite being a shitty comic) is better than dykes to watch out for (and what i mean by a shitty comic is that it doesn't actually engage the form of comix but i LOVE the story)
if i'm flubbing the title forgive me i ended up with lots of whiskey for a very small amount of money at the bar tonight
i agree. i also kinda just hate the word "dyke" being used by most dykes. it's so "pow pow, radical activist IN YO FACE!", you know? but all that said, props to the op and all.
i dunno. maybe it's karma-related nervousness or something...i feel like if i reject too many people from ratings communities i'll get REJECTED from grad school.
I don't like any of the words for gay. Normally I opt for "queer" as in "not straight" and leave it at that.
The only problem with that is that older generations haven't appropriated "queer", and still associate it with the negative meanings, which is understandable. My dad insists on saying "gay and lesbian" all the time.
I don't like people trying to claim "faggot", though. I don't think you can get away from its origin (people perceived as homosexual being burned along with "witches" in Cromwell's time, or so I'm led to believe). And it's a coarse-sounding word, too.
i call myself a faggot all the time due to the prosody the word maintains & because it works as a direct affront towards people who actually use the word as synonymous with stupid when confronted with an actual homo using the word self-referentially-- it causes discomforted, and i like the reversal of roles in the exchange.
Someone in one of my classes is always showing me comic strips he draws himself, in which psychos shoot openly gay people. I don't know, he must assume that I'm interested... (?)
Mostly I raise an eyebrow and grunt in a very ladylike way.

Next time that idiot shows me one of his hand drawn comics with happy dancing children being called fags and getting their brains blown out.
