Friday I got done all the stuff I needed to get done. I went out to dinner with my parents and Thomas to Piccolo's, a family tradition I hadn't participated in in some time. We sat near a middle-aged couple who go to our church and who also often go to Piccolo's; the wife is a total Southern sweetie, and the husband is quite funny. After our dinners (and alcohol for everyone but me...) his advice to me was that if MIT doesn't work out, I can don 6-inch heels and a 3-inch skirt and make a living as a cocktail waitress. (Of course, I might wind up doing that at some point even if MIT does work out.) That probably sounds creepy, but he made it sound hilarious, because he's like that.
After dinner, I went to Relay for Life, which apparently is a big event at my high school, so people were very surprised when I told them that this was the first one I'd been to. None of my friends ever did it, though, so it never really pierced my consciousness, I guess. I hung out with Katie, and Dzuiba, and their friends Sam, Robin, and Robbie, and later James. 'Twas a fun night. We ran into Alex as Katie was walking me to my car, so I got a guy on one arm and a girl on the other. Heeheehee. =D
Today was lovely. I took the train to NYC and met up with 9 other kids in the area who are going to MIT next year - Stan, Ian, Michelle B., Kenny, Rebecca, Matt, Vasudha, Bianca, and Tina my next year's roomie. We went to Max Brenner's, the chocolate restaurant in Union Square. While we were walking around waiting for a table to open up, I realized to my utter delight that the Strand bookstore (18 miles of books...) was only a block and a half downtown along Broadway from Max Brenner's, so after we ate I went there with Tina briefly to the Strand while the rest went to a small street fair that the guys disliked because it had only jewelry and dragged us all back to sit around in Union Square, where we played Mafia until it started to rain and people had to leave, so we all split.
But, back to Max Brenner's. YUM. They actually had pipes running across the ceilings labeled "100% Pure Chocolate" that I'm pretty sure contained just that, since they ended in chocolate dispensers behind the counter. We sat upstairs, all together at a big table; most of the kids made an attempt at healthiness by eating real food and then a dessert, but Tina and I split some really good ice cream, chocolate chai, and milkshake with Oreos and white chocolate ice cream that was rather heavenly. Our main course was a chocolate pizza that we split with Ian and Stan. And by "chocolate pizza," I mean pizza crust with melted chocolate sauce, chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate, and toasted marshmallows, in that order. That place would be AMAZING for a romantic dinner. Heeheehee. =D
Then I went to Nanner's graduation party, where I got to talk to hang out with Maddie and Caitlin and Nanners, primarily, as well as Maggie, Chris, and Graham. 'Twas a good time. We ate, and played volleyball and badminton (in defiance of all athletic stereotypes, the girls playing badminton could serve, and the guys couldn't, haha), and waved sparklers around (raving with sparklers, anyone?) and watched Robin Hood: Men in Tights. And I got to pet Lauren's kitty for a bit. =) I was talking to a parent there at one point who was telling me how she read my senior profile in the yearbook, and how she didn't get it the first time because it was obscure, but the second time realized it was me basically saying "I'm OUTTA HERE" in a polite manner. I didn't think it was all that obscure, but then again, I know exactly what I was saying... when I wrote it, I was considering a blunt statement of how I really didn't like high school and wouldn't miss too many of my classmates, but that would be kind of mean, not to mention unfair to my teachers, who might feel bad that I didn't like high school when it really wasn't their fault. So instead I went for a more polite (and, therefore, obscure) phrasing, which also thanks those who should be thanked, and gives my love to my wonderful friends who made high school slightly more bearable.
Tomorrow I am off to choir camp after Becca's graduation party, so I will have limited to no Internet access until the 24th. However, I will be getting plenty of cell service! And for those in the NYC area, I encourage you to come hear us - we're doing an Evensong on Thursday at St. Thomas Church 5th Ave. (it'll be around 4:00 or 5:00; the website will probably say), a Friday noon service at Trinity Church Wall Street, and a Sunday Eucharist at I forget where, but it doesn't really matter because I'm leaving early from that to get to graduation on time, so I don't recommend it as a service to go to.
