I owe a friend a bit of an apology.

"Too far" got redefined for me, this week-end. Another friend was up against it, staring Ketchup soup in the face, quite literally.

We cleared out the pantry some, and I toted about half on a 6-hour trek on a relief mission. Yes, I count myself as a mini-hero for that one, as opposed to the micro-hero lifestyle I endeavor to live. I differentiate this fron Random Acts of Senseless Kindness. My acts aren't random. They are intendedto serve two puposes: Make the lives of the strangers I encounter a little bit better, and to set an example. Whether other people learn or not is up to them.

Anyway. Were adults the only ones involved, I may have shrugged, and said that I coould help without leaving town, or sending substantial cash via money order. (they are friends). Wasn't the case. Kids. Kids too young to understand doing without. So I set out, and truth be told, the visit would have been worth it for just the company (thus the title here). I snagged some fresh stuff on sale, too, to go along with the canned goods - under $10, nothing earth-shaking.

Not only did they pay me back: a nice set of 4 Wolfgang Puck knives (surplus to their needs), and some frozen game (their family hunts & fishes - protein wasn't the problem: but protein & starch ain't enough, in the long-term. And hell, they would prolly have muddled through until payday on a low-veg diet, but this bought them cushion for other times, too).

But Not just that. Karma payed me back in several ways: a gold-tone John Adams dollar coin, '46 Roosevelt silver dime, a clear view of a falling star (Pretty!), and a good location to meet my parents (@#$%'s!) closer to half-way, for when the kids visit them in the summer. Plus lots of pretty Xmas lights, and a good view of downtown Lincoln, NE, which is also a pleasant place, from what I saw.

anyway, circa 2.5 hours is looking a lot smaller. You know who you are. Won't promise that I can come, but if the moeny and car are there, I will head east. Just say the word.

I can learn...
