At the end of my patrol last night, around 6 a.m., two young guys tried to rob a twenty-four hour convenience store. I happened to be nearby so I was able to easily stop them and tie them to a lamp post. After I made sure that the clerk was alright and had him call the police, I was heading back to my motorcycle.
I heard some really quiet squeaking so I went to investigate along the side of the building. 'lo and behold there was an abandoned kitten inside a paper bag in a trash can. Of course I scooped him up and made sure he was alright. He looked fine except for probably being cold and hungry. I asked the convenience store clerk if he knew anything about the kitten but he said no. There aren't many houses right around there so I have no idea who could have dumped the little guy.
There aren't any rescue shelters open that early so I wasn't sure what to do.....
I decided to take him home with me. I know that cow milk isn't good for kittens and he's not too terribly young, so I bought some cat food at the convenience store and took him home. He wouldn't eat the hard food at first but I softened it with water, and then he ate and drank a lot and has been sleeping since then. I went out a little bit ago and bought a cat cage, littler pan, etc.
Here's a picture of him not looking too sure about his current accommodations:
