I'm totally with you on this one. Video games are definitely this generation's "evil."

"Various studies demonstrate the negative impact playing violent and sexually explicit video games has on minors."

Various market studies also show that minors are a minority portion of the game playing population now. Men over 18 make the overriding majority of gamers, and women over 18 are growing so fast they've already surpassed the numbers of minors playing games.

In fact, kids don't play games as often as they used to. When I talk to my cousins, almost none of them have the same interest in games I did or my friends did. They'll own an Xbox, sure, but usually with a game or two. Video games have become too complicated for many younger kids.

Furthermore, you're absolutely right. I remember when I first bought a Dungeons & Dragons book to play with. My mother spent a nice amount of time researching and talking to people before letting me have it to make sure I wasn't getting into something I shouldn't. Sure, as kids we bitch about our parents not trusting us, but I'm glad my Mom cared enough to make sure something was good for me before letting me buy it. If a game is entitled "Grand Theft Auto" maybe your kid can't have it. And if they buy it without your supervision, here's a thought, take it the fuck away. You're the parent.

I'm absolutely tired of video games being blamed for the problems of kids.

It reminds me of a Penny-Arcade comic:

By the way, I'm also the RA on the video game Explorations floor next you, so...eh...full disclosure, right?
