Causeway - Evening

Zuko had his bag slung over his shoulder and he stared ahead of him at the causeway, not yet able to see his own world at the other side, but he would soon. He almost wished he couldn't. Almost, it was silly to get cold feet now. He knew he had to go, but he didn't know if he really would see this place again and any reluctance he had right now had

"You'll promise not to get hurt?" she asked, finishing that sentence for him. "And if you do, you won't be stupid and not ask the me there for help?"

If the Katara there wasn't the one actually trying to kill him. "I won't," he murmured, squeezing her hand.

"Do you promise?" Katara asked, crossing her arms in front of her.

Zuko frowned and he was entirely getting too soft. "Fine, I promise."

[southernbender]

"Good," she said, relaxing again. She reached for his hand. "But don't get hurt at all, okay?"

[thebluespirit]

"I'm not planning on it," he pointed out, but he couldn't quite promise that as he knew he was going to end up fighting. "Don't worry so much."

Katara made a face at him. "You're going into the middle of a war. I'm going to worry."

He nodded and put the bag down on the ground. "I'd like for you to have something," he said quietly.

[southernbender]

She paused, staring at him. "You didn't have to get me anything."

[thebluespirit]

"I know. It's not really like that," he explained. "I just want you to have this."

[southernbender]

"Thank you," Katara said with a smile for him. She tilted her head. "What is it?"

[thebluespirit]

He pulled out the bag Aly had returned to him and handed it to her. "One is for safekeeping," he explained. "I might come back for it later."

[southernbender]

"Or I could bring it to you," Katara said, looking into the bag. She smiled as she pulled out the Blue Spirit mask. "I remember this," she teased. "How will you live without it?"

"I don't need to hide anymore," he said with a crooked smile and a shrug of his shoulder.

[southernbender]

She smiled proudly at him then took the crown out of the bag, holding onto it carefully. "What's this?"

[thebluespirit]

"It's a crown usually worn by the heir to the throne," Zuko explained, moving closer to her. "This one belonged to Firelord Sozin before he gave it to Avatar Roku."
