School District Frags Halo 2 Fundraiser
Game deemed "too violent" to help with tsunami relief.
By Garnett Lee
Portland ABC affiliate KATU reports that the Puyallup school district has cancelled a Halo 2 tournament that was to be held as a fundraiser for the Red Cross Tsunami fund. The district says that the game violates its anti-violence policy. Speaking on behalf of the school district, Karen Hanson said, "When you look at what happened with Columbine, when you look at acts of violence against young people, I think anything we do that even looks like we're endorsing violence is not appropriate."
Mike Alston and Joshua Shake, seniors at Rogers High School, thought the game they enjoy in their free time would make a great way to raise money for the Red Cross. Thinking ahead, they even had parents of contestants sign a waiver acknowledging the graphic nature of the game. Apparently that effort was not enough. It might not have come as too much of a shock to the pair. They pointed out to the TV reporter that this was the same school district that had cancelled Halloween celebrations for being insensitive to the Wiccan religion.
now i dont want to get off on a rant here. . .
seriously, weak. understandable, but people need to stop walking on eggshells. its a disaster relief fund for god sakes, i would think any way to help would be good. if the NRA held a shooting tournament where everyone who owns a gun could shoot at ducks, or a donated prize for the man who can snag the most or biggest dear, i would think that no one would complain. but one or two kids want to ahve fun playing a game and raising money to help some people at the same time? i would think that would be accepted by society. but that is just me lol
