Road Trip to College

I'm really amazed to be writing an entry with this subject line. It's pretty surreal to actually be here (here being Kimball, Nebraska), on the road to school. It's been a very easy trip thus far, and I'd guess it'll only get easier.

I've said goodbye to Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and just recently Wyoming. Tomorrow we'll finish Nebraska, and the following day, Iowa, and cross the border into Illinois.

We've traveled over 1,200 miles. Been listening to some good music; thanks Kat for the CD! Also it's been good time with my dad. I'm not sure that I've ever been alone with him for this much time in such a close environment. If you had told me at the beginning of high school that in four years, my dad would be driving me to college in Illinois, I would have laughed. A lot.

But here we are.

I'm excited to get to Knox, obviously. I think we'll get into Galesburg on Sunday night. That'll be pretty unbearable. Check-in is any time after 8 AM. I'm sure I'll be up early, and will be going crazy with anticipation.

Monday will be alright, no athletic activity to speak of (unless I so choose, hah!). Just a xc team meeting, an all athlete meeting, and a physical.

Tuesday will be the first real day of training. It sounds do-able. Just a 20-30 minute run around 10 AM, followed by a road run sometime in the late afternoon. Coach's email said nothing about road run distance... perhaps worrisome? But we will see! The crowning glory of Tuesday is an ice-cream social for all fall athletes. What?! That happens?! And I had been thinking about giving up ice cream for the fall season. Hah!

Today at the Oregon Zoo, Otter Campers started their mixed-species dioramas, saw the primates, and took the train to Washington Park. It's a little strange not to be there with good friends.

That's all. I'm not sure that I'll keep this through college, I don't use it very much as is. I'll think on it.
