The truth about AV

There is so much mud-slinging and misinformation being thrown around about AV, it is really sickening.  So, I thought I would do a post that was about the genuine pro's and con's of the electoral systems on offer at the May 5th referendum.

Actually, Antony Green also points out that it's not much slower to count. The reason why Australia takes so long to get its results in marginal seats are to do with other rules: waiting 7 days for the last of the postal ballots to arrive, and because we allow absent voting, that sort of thing. AIUI the UK proposal wouldn't affect anything like that, so all the votes would be ready for counting on the night, and so you'd expect them to be counted about as fast as they are now.
