Dreamingly Insomnia | theblobmaster | PG | KaiYeol | 3k w

A Japanese legend says that if you can’t sleep at night it’s because you’re awake in someone else’s dream.

---

The room I was standing in was completely dark, yet I could still see everything clearly. It was freezing and my bare feet stood on something that seemed like wet stones. I tried to move but to no avail, my feet were rooted and I could barely lift my arms. Strangely I didn't panic nor did it feel uncomfortable. It was like I was waiting and I knew I wouldn't get hurt while doing so. Suddenly I was hugging someone. I was hugging a boy. A boy a bit lower than me, he was warm, I could feel the heat seeping through the thin material of my white tee. His torso was bare and my hands were holding onto firm muscles and soft skin. His skin was tanned, and it fit with the warmth he was radiating. I pulled back slowly and his eyes caught mine. The dark brown orbs that seemingly looked right through me. His lips showed a hint of a smirk. He was stunning. He took my hand and held it to his chest right over his heart. His mouth opened -

JongIn groaned for the nth time that night. He had been trying to sleep for at least four hours now and even if he was dead tired, his mind refused to let his body retire for the night. He hadn't been able to sleep at night properly for the last few days. Today he had stayed in the dance studio for another hour training extra hard because he thought if his body was exhausted maybe he would be able to sleep. It didn't work. His lack of sleep was starting to affect his school. He could barely stay awake in class before this sudden insomnia took over, now it was impossible. He constantly dozed off during lectures and he would end up missing half of it. After trying drinking warm milk, which is disgusting he found out, taking late night scalding hot showers and counting numerous sheep he decided whining to his best friends would be the best idea. In Kim JongIn's mind, whining always solved everything. Whining didn't help at all. All he got was KyungSoo offering to buy him sleeping pills. He refused the offer, because you can't be sure you wake up, okay? -no I'm not paranoid SeHun. The both of them had rolled their eyes at him and called him a baby. He was running out of ideas already and he very much needed sleep. He needed all the sleep he could get, with the upcoming showcase and the finals nearing. He had even contemplated getting KyungSoo to caress his forehead like his mother used to when he couldn't sleep at night when he was a child. It was too embarrassing to ask for, so he tried doing it himself. He ended up more awake than before. He sat up in bed and pulled a wife beater over his head and some track pants on with bare feet he walked out on the little balcony.
The night was cold and damp, but JongIn welcomed it. The tree planks were slightly damp and the moisture felt cooling on the thick skin of his feet. The building just a dozen metres away was blacked out. Not a single apartment was lit up and somehow JongIn felt satisfied seeing that. He turned his gaze up in hope to see some stars, but it was impossible in the middle of Seoul. Still the night was beautiful in its soft embrace and quiet streets.

- and though no sound came out, I heard him say my name with such clarity. The way the plush lips formed my name gave me shivers. He let our hands drop from his chest and pulled me along. Without protest did my legs move and I almost stumbled after by the force he was pulling me with. His hand kept providing me with warmth and After I had touched him no part of my body was freezing. I blinked and when I opened my eyes we were in what looked like dance studio. He let go of my hand, moving away from me as silent music began to play. I could see himself detaching from all that around him and with closed eyes he began to dance. It was breathtakingly to watch him move in a way I only have dreamed of. The gracefulness of his spins and turns, the slope of his arm as he moved. When he stilled his eyes were tightly shut as if he tried to shun out the way he looked as he danced, I felt an urge to tell how beautiful he was and somehow I did without opening my mouth. I could see the gratefulness in his eyes when he looked at me again. His plump lips formed my name again, a sudden heat wave took over me as soon as he finished. I shut my eyes and when I opened them we had shifted scene again. We were in my shared flat, laughing and cuddling on my couch. On the TV screen Cap'n Jack Sparrow was saying all too familiar lines. I felt safe and warm. I was leaning up against his chest, his arms secured around as he shushed me and told me it was his favourite part, again there was no sound but I understood perfectly. I even felt myself rolling my eyes and muttering under my breath, that I had heard that the first 16 times we watched the damn film. His chuckled vibrated through me and suddenly I was falling, falling, falling landing with a thud knocking all the air out of my lungs.

"You look like shit." JongIn kindly ignored the douche he called a best friend to SeHun and proceeded to the coffee. He had gotten to sleep around four in the morning. JongIn didn't function very well on three hours sleep. No he rather opted to around ten hours if possible. A little while later KyungSoo came trudging in, shooting worried stares at JongIn.
"I'm guessing you couldn't fall asleep again last night." KyungSoo says in a soft voice. SeHun scoffs and rolls his eyes.
"I don't get why you don't take the sleeping pills. Dude, you haven't slept properly in like what four days now? You look so terrible that even zombies look better you." JongIn shoots daggers at SeHun, as if he didn't know he looked like something the dog threw up, but he refused taking drugs.
"At least get it JoonMyun to check on it. If it's something serious or not." KyungSoo was chewing furiously on his bottom lip and JongIn was almost afraid he would one day end up biting it off if he wasn't careful.
"I will, I'll call him today." It was in situations like this JongIn was glad his childhood Hyung had decided to become a doctor. It made it much more convenient for JongIn when his schedule was pressed to the rim and in no way would he have free time when the doctor had open.

It was nearing eight in the evening when JoonMyun decided to pick JongIn up from dance practise, tempting with the promise of buying the younger meat. They had originally agreed on meeting at nine, but KyungSoo had called JoonMyun and told about how little JongIn had slept the last few days. It worried JoonMyun since JongIn never had any problems sleeping, ever. So the elder had decided to treat his precious junior to some meat and investigating the younger. He had a feeling it might be because of stress, JongIn always had a tendency to overwork himself but he also valued his sleep to an almost religious point. He watched with almost fatherly care as the younger stuffed his face with meat. He liked the way that JongIn's eyes lit up when he was served food that he loved.
"KyungSoo called earlier." JongIn rolled his eyes in response as he chewed furiously so he could swallow.
"He worries too much, but really it's starting to annoy me that I can't sleep at night. I have no problem in the day and no it's not only because I don't sleep at night. I tried staying up and not take a nap the whole day and to no avail. I couldn't fall asleep that night." He huffed out, before stealing a piece of meat from JoonMyun's side. His chewing had slowed down as he was beginning to feel full. The bags under his eyes are dark and prominent.
"Have there been any extreme changes lately?" JongIn shakes his head furiously as he start picking on his salad. The beginning of a pout is evident on his lips as he stares forlornly down at the vegetables.
"And you're not stressing because of the showcase or finals?" Another shake. JoonMyun was starting to get worried. It might be something really serious.
"JongIn, clear your schedule tomorrow. You have to get a full check up at the hospital."

"You're a perfectly healthy young man, Mr Kim. There is nothing wrong with you. The insomnia might be something psychological. Have you experienced anything traumatic lately?" The kind doctor looks at him with serious eyes and suddenly JongIn feels like a little kid.
"No, sir. Nothing out of the ordinary has happened as of lately." The doctor nods and scribbles down on his notepad. His eyes lifting to look at JongIn, examining. His eyebrows furrows as in deep thought.
"And you refuse to take sleeping pills?" JongIn nods, looking at his feet suddenly embarrassed over his paranoia. He needs to get a pair of new shoes he muses as he takes in the worn out tips and dirty white leather.
"Then I'm afraid we'll have to wait and see if you can sleep. Come back in two weeks if you still have trouble sleeping then." JongIn mutters a thank you sir and I will.

I'm in a forest of some sort lying on the dirt staring up at the tree tops, my body is shivering and I'm freezing. I miss the warm touch of his body pressed against mine, a second after a warm hand grabs mine and I turn to see if it's him. Hey, he mutters. I realize how much I actually want to hear his voice and not just feel the words he says. He laces our fingers together and lies flush up by my side. I feel myself becoming warm again, my heart beating wildly in my chest. He nudges my neck with his nose before burying his face in the crook of it. His smile stretches against my skin as he begins to laugh. The grass tickles my neck when I look down at him, feeling the need to kiss his face with every soundless chuckle that leaves his mouth. He nuzzles my neck again with his nose clearly trying to tickle me. With a big grin he straddles me, his hands slowly moving over my sides, grazing lightly, tortuously. It's then I notice that we're both stark naked. His hair is wild and leaves is sticking of it, eyes shining brilliantly. My hands grabs out for him, pulling him down so I can kiss him. His lips soft and inviting, I can taste his laughter on his tongue. We part with a grin. He leans down and kisses my nose tip, laughing when I wrinkle my nose out of mock disgust. His laughter seems beautiful in its silence. He leans down again, nipping at my collarbones. I shift to get more comfortable, closing my eyes as he mouths my Adam's apple. I can feel the air shift abruptly, when I open my eyes there's no trees in sight.

"Dance majors and music majors will have to collaborate for the showcase. You'll be working in pairs of two. Meaning you'll have to decide and figure things out with your partner. Your teachers have already partnered you up. There's a list hanging just outside the auditorium and there you can see who your partner is. This year the theme is contrasts and that's what your teachers have had in mind when they partnered you guys up. You are now dismissed." JongIn smiled as he made his way towards the list, opting to take it slow so he wouldn't have to get mashed in the crowd around the list. He was excited to see who he was partnered up with. His teachers must've had a hard time coming up with someone contrasting JongIn's dancing style as he mixed ballet, jazz and hip hop. When he neared the list he saw KyungSoo and SeHun highfiving each other, JongIn guessed they got partnered up. It would make sense, since SeHun was a Hip Hop dance Major and KyungSoo a classical Singing Major.

Park ChanYeol was written neatly beside his name. He felt his two flatmates staring over his shoulder scanning the paper to find his name. KyungSoo was the first to give a reaction as he gasped loudly when he saw just who JongIn was partnered up with.
"You know him?" JongIn asks. KyungSoo's eyes has doubled in size, he nods violently pulling JongIn out of the crowd. SeHun follows silently after amused by the extreme reaction.
"Park ChanYeol. He's like a genius. Or so is said around the music majors. I've never actually met him. But everyone knows his name." JongIn scrunches his nose, a genius huh? Well at least it's not because he's infinitely bad KyungSoo gave such a weird reaction.
"Then why are you whispering like it's the most awful thing ever?" SeHun snorts out. Sometimes his flatmates were overly dramatic.
"Because. You know. It's said that he looks down on others. I heard he once made one of the other music majors cry because he like was so awful and demanding." SeHun and JongIn rolls their eyes at KyungSoo.
"It's all rumours. You haven't actually witnessed anything have you?" Sheepishly KyungSoo shakes his head no and begins chewing on his bottom lip again. After a second or two he hears a deep baritone voice asking after him, JongIn turns gracefully because he would like to make a good impression, and with a voice devoid of any of the anticipation to meet this Park ChanYeol he was feeling says, "Who's asking?" A tall awkward looking guy with unruly curly red brownish hair turns to look at him. His mouth opens to answer before his eyes land on JongIn. He stops dead in his track as soon as he spots JongIn standing there looking slightly annoyed, before promptly fainting.

JongIn is muttering profanities under his breath when ChanYeol stirs. The tall guy looks confused when all he sees is white ceiling. He hands reach up to his head as if it would help him dull the growing headache from his fall. JongIn watches with amusement when it seems ChanYeol remembers what had happened. The music major sits up abruptly, a groan leaving his lips when the dunking in his head becomes stronger. He stares at JongIn with wide eyes, a somehow disbelieving look on his face.
"I think I'm in love with you." Is the first thing that comes out of his mouth when he regains his ability to talk. JongIn stares incredulously at the stranger.
"What?" He croaks out. How did that happen? It seems that it dawns on ChanYeol what he just said, his cheeks sporting a powerful red colour, his hand scratching his head.
"Uh, that was awkward. Hi, I'm ChanYeol." He smiles a big and blinding smile stretching his hand out for JongIn to grab. Reluctantly JongIn takes it and introduces himself.

I'm outside of my college walking towards the arts department. The school is deserted and there's no wind blowing. It dark and I shouldn't be able to see anything, but I can. I enter the old building looking around to see if there was anyone else. Someone calls my name and I spot a little light down the dance department. Without thinking I walk towards it, hoping that he's there. I feel empty without him by my side. At the end of the department corridor there's a door and the light is coming from underneath it. So I grab the handle and open the door carefully. He's inside sitting on the floor, chest heaving for air. He hears me opening the door and turns to smile at me. His face is glowing. This time he only mouths a hey, because I can't feel it only see it. He pats the space beside him and I walk over dumping myself on the floor. His hand traces my cheek. It finds its way to the back of my head and pulls me in for a kiss. My whole body relaxes as his lips touches mine. I feel complete again and I wish for it to never end. It does though since we have to breathe. I missed you, he whispers. His face is an inch away from mine, his breath puffing on my lips. He looks at me with soft eyes and I feel like the luckiest man on earth. I lean in and kisses him again, savouring the feeling of his lips as if I know it won't last long before he disappears. My eyes closes as I pull him close, kissing him senseless. When I open my eyes he's gone and I'm alone right where it all began.

"He what!?"  KyungSoo squeaks. JongIn had told about ChanYeol's love confession as soon as he got home. SeHun had first laughed believing it was a joke at first. He then proceeded to double over when JongIn told it was real. KyungSoo though, looked slightly like he was having a panic attack.
"He told me he thinks he was in love with me, then proceeded to pretend he never said it." SeHun begins choking on the air because of how hard he was laughing. KyungSoo starts actually panicking, hitting SeHun on the back as if it would help. When the younger finally catches his breath again he says,
"Getting popular, aren't we?" JongIn just huffs out in anger. This was not what he signed up for when he became friends with SeHun. Back then he was such a sweet little kid, looking at JongIn with bright eyes and asking for protection. After he began hanging out with a certain senior, that he has yet to introduce to his bestest friend in the world, he has becoming a bit more douchy. Luckily for him, JongIn still loves him.
"I'm partnered up with a weirdo."

Surprisingly that evening he fell asleep like a little child. Dreaming about curly hair, too wide smiles and large ears.

If anyone was confused, the italic parts are ChanYeol's dreams. so yeah...
