Innate:
Voice recognition. Toph doesn't forget voices, so when hearing a familiar voice, she knows who it is. Disguising your voice or whispering could throw her off a little, but not if you talked for a long time. Characters who dress in disguise or have secret identities won't fool her, but she won't out anyone unless they piss her off ( Read more... )

Kaguya dosen't so much lie as put an act for other people to amuse herself; so maybe Toph can tell not so much when she's lying but being dead serious about something.

As for my other character katto_katto I humbly request that she can't tell when he's lying because he is completely and utterly insane.

Okay, sure. I'd say people who lie just really broadly and don't think about it much are fairly exempt. The thing that changes the pulse/body vibrations is based on tension.

I don't wanna look like I'm godmodding with it, so if you wanna discuss this feel free!

But, Yuuka is over 4000 years old...and lies CONSTANTLY. I would assume her usual off-the-cuff lies would probably not spark any differences in her pulse and whatnot. But I would imagine if she finds it important enough it would likely trip that lie detection...but Yuuka doesn't find much important >.>

If any lies are something that would spark such changes, I'll be sure to let you know in-comment. ...or if I feel like making them noticeable JUST to screw with my muse...which I do often.

That works! People who are really flippant about lying probably wouldn't be affected, and really practiced liars aren't, either.

B's another of those constant-liars-so-no-tension cases, I think.

But my question is actually on just how good is her voice recognition. Could Toph detect B's voice even if he was using his voice scrambler?

Nope!

Her abilities are strictly within human range. She can't see people, so she recognizes them by voice and the way they walk. A voice scrambler would definitely throw her.

Hm. I wouldn't say that Jeff is a good liar, but since he's had his brain wired up to a computer for three years, his emotional responses are way, way off. His voice will tend to sound very odd for the same reason. It comes from a biological source, but he talks like a speech synthesizer program.

Feel free to do whatever you need to with this info. I'm just throwing it out there. ^^
