food adventure

Last night, sherman brought me out to a surprise dinner date to celebrate the end of the work week. The only clue he gave me was that it's located at Pahang street. I was curious, so I googled it, and found a list of restaurants along that street. I looked through the list, and there was this one particular restaurant that caught my eye. Don't ask me why, I don't know either, but once I saw the menu, I knew that's where we are going that night. I even planned out what to eat! Sherman looked a little upset that his surprise didn't work, and promised to never give me any clues in future. His girlfriend is just too much of a surprise spoiler. :p

Anyway, the name of the restaurant is Amirah's Grill. It serves a mix of egyptian and middle east cuisine. There is only one word to describe it - Exotic! From the drinks, to the starters, to the soup, to the main course, to the dessert! There's not one thing that taste familiar to me. And it was all really exciting!

I had a hibiscus tea which tasted a little bit like ribena mixed with sour plum juice. I quite like it, though i'd say it's a little too sweet. Sherman had a mint tea which was really refreshing! We both ordered the set meal. It comes with a soup, salad, pita and garlic bread, main course of your choice, and dessert. It really is quite a spread! We had chicken soup and mushroom soup, both of which are quite common, but there is this taste, which I find it hard to describe. It's a sort of arabic taste, full of spices! And the bread! Oh, the bread! What's really interesting about the bread, is that it is served with two plates of cream. I honestly don't know what the cream is made of, and I forgot to ask the chef. But it taste so good! Especially with the pita!

And for the main course, Sherman had a mixed turkish kebab, while I (the boring one) had the grilled salmon. The fun thing about this grilled salmon is that it comes with a special sauce. They said it's a special pepper sauce, but it looked more like gravy for mash potatoes, and tasted very much like fish head curry. I told you it's exotic! And I loved it! I love curry, so anything that taste like curry is definitely a hit for me. Sherman's mixed turkish kebab has chicken, mutton and lamb. I'm not a big fan of mutton and lamb, and I find the dish too meaty, but Sherman's no vege person so he's very satisfied with it.

As for dessert (my favourite!), I had a french cream caramel while sherman had a scoop of strawberry ice cream (half a scoop in fact, cos I ate the other half! Hehe!). The place smells of arabian spice, so strong that it will take a while to get used to it. It's a small cosy restaurant and the price is very reasonable! It sure was a different experience for foodies like me.

Needless to say, we both went back home with a really satisfied tummy.

Thanks baby! (:

love, food
