Good vacation week.
Capped it off with a Friday downtown. Took Cynra to get a new brassiere from
Secrets From Your Sister. She got a fitting and picked one up. They also have wish lists there, but I may go with something a little more colourful.
We were planning to hit the dinosaur exhibit at the ROM afterwards, but ended up skipping it to go get some books for her library from BMV. I also dropped by The Beguiling. Picked up a copy of the new Thunderbolts HC for $10, which I thought was a bargain, but apparently it's selling for that amount everywhere. BMV also had it for cheap.
Interesting story, in any case. I wonder how many comics make you pray for the lead characters to get their butts kicked? I'm tempted to pick up the regular book before it becomes unprofitable for Marvel.
We also got together with Uday & his fiance for dinner before going to see some comedy at the
Absolute Comedy club. The MC was Denis Grignon, who I'd seen in Ottawa a lifetime ago.
It turns out he met Uday while the two of them were out canoeing. The odd bit is he'd been sort of a mentor to
hilson when we were in Journalism school. Small fuckin' world. We sat about kibbitzing afterwards, and Cynra & I were a bit late leaving, not getting home until about 2.
Now, on a normal morning, that would have been fine, but we had to get back downtown so we could go to Seedy Saturday and she could meet up with
Theresa, who she'd give a ride back home for the day's Euchre activities, and I would meet up with
eyebeams.
We ended up getting there a bit late, so Cynra took in SS with Theresa and I took off with
eyebeams.
We took in the Merril collection. I just wanted to visit my old books. I should have put in bookplates or something. Lorna, the collection's curator, is a peach, and the collection is always fun to tour; if you go, think of your favourite writers ahead of time, and she might have something particularly neat to see.
I also bumped into Andrew Specht for the second time in as many days. He didn't recognize me.
eyebeams met up with his family at the ROM (that place again!) and I bid them adieu and headed out on the town. Cynra & Theresa suggested I ring up
Gorman, but I was looking forward to a few hours of solitude.
I stopped off at
Zyng for some stirfry, and watched as Anonymous marshaled on the streets for the Ides protest. No Cake was in sight.
I strolled down the street and dropped into Planet Hobby (motto: your soul will not escape) and after looking at their gaming selection and wincing just a little, I started to feel a little sick. Where by a little, I mean a lot. We're talking "that trip to Gama" sick.
I dropped by a few places (usually only a step or two ahead of a demo team leader) until I got to Hairy T, where I actually turned the fact the DTL was close behind me to my advantage by foisting him off on someone I'd gotten into a strange conversation with.
I did end up picking up a few things, including a new Astro City story about
Beautie. She's both a living doll and a gay icon. Who else can say that, other than possibly Cher? I also got the third book in the Mormo's Guts Module triology. I occasionally get a hankering to run a Scarred Lands 3E game, and it would be based only on what monsters I pull in a D&D Minis booster that day.
I took the Go bus home (which is always a blast, if you don't mind a long wait for the next Milton bus; there is exactly one advantage to living in Mississauga.
Today was the St. Patrick's day parade. I should have run a B5 tournament, but instead we did some shopping and checked out Laurie Browne's new PC.
