Dear Marvel:
Seriously, WTF? I decided I wanted to read the new X-Men: First Class TPB, so I asked my FLCS to order me a copy.
First Class, btw, is new X-Men stories set in a strange alternate continuity where the original X-Men (Angel, Beast, Iceman, Cyclops & Marvel Girl) are in school now (Beast listens to an iPod, etc) but refers to all the classic X-Men stories in continuity (i.e. The Stranger kidnaps Magneto & Toad and turns Mastermind to a statue). They're very enjoyable, and are all ages, which is good.
So, I picked it up (or at least THOUGHT I did) for the affordable price of $5.99 as a side stapled, slightly larger than normal edition. I read it and enjoyed it. But then I discovered something; it was only issues one to four. When I went to the FLCS, they had the TPB I'd ordered, which had issue 1-8.
Since Junior's a good guy, I was able to take back the book I had and get the trade. Now, here's where things get odd. The stapled book was $5.99 for 1-4. The trade was $19.99 for 1-8. So, I ended up paying an extra $15 for the missing four issues. I strongly suspect I could have just bought the singles for that much.
Damn.
Yours,
TBG
