Today in Post Cinema Highs

Okay, so Cynra and I went with Chris to go see Alice on Saturday morning.

First off: No, no more Saturday morning movies. No. Especially when I need to go to the damn DMV first. No.

Secondly: the film was not bad. Crispin Glover's performance as "evil dude with mood eyepatch" was enjoyable, at least, and the voice and FX work were both great. Someone needs to sit Johnny Depp down and have a talk with him, though.

The highlight of the experience, though, happened before the film.

Up until I saw the trailer for it, my anticipation for Tron: Legacy was... well, it was minimal at best. I mean, yeah, I enjoy Tron (kinra and I even reviewed its Rifftrax for our first episode, but I'm aware of its weaknesses and how it shows its age.

The trailer for Tron: Legacy, though... I tweeted afterwards "I rezzed in my pants", which is about correct. The visuals blew me through the back wall of the theatre, and the attention to detail was also thrilling. Flynn's arcade, the appearance of Bruce Boxleitner, and the beauty of their computer world all just piled glee upon glee on my nerd ganglia.

Honestly, the movie was a letdown after that trailer.

I don't even mind that the plot is a hoary old "son goes in search of missing father, who has vanished into a mystical land".

My favourite bit was Flynn Jr. sitting at a terminal, and a familiar device rising up behind him.

Honestly, the first trailer was a nice little thrill ride, but this one was a big plate of wow, with a side order of ZOMG.
